My 6 yr old, Arnie, is the best dog I've ever had. Cute, smart, doesn't chew. I've trained him to blood track deer; so, he's a great combination of indoor companion and outdoor work dog. He doesn't bark anymore than other breeds. Was easy to house break. His only issue, like all beagles, is he is very good driven. But, that's just part of the charm.

Beagles are the best combination of lovable, cute, loyal, and workable you can get.

I had a Lhasa Apso who lived to the ripe age of 17. She was the best dog I've ever owned.

We have a German Sheppard/Husky/Boxer just show up as a very hyper skinny puppy. Took him in and got him right. He's phenomenal. Sweet, but protective. Can hike all day, but curl up by your feet by the campfire. The odds of ever getting a breed like him again is damn near impossible.

We got two Labradoodle that are 50/50 that look like shaggy black labs. They're great, and we'll probably continue to keep this breed around.

Boston Terrier for me and it's not even close. They have the best personality and mix of energy and sweetness. They have the most expressive eyes and faces. I always feel like my current one is lost in deep thought. Just the best dogs! Highly recommend if you are on the fence...

I've only had mutts.

Childhood dog was a beagle/cocker spaniel mix. Sweet girl. Looked a little but like Lady from "Lady and the Tramp." Lived to age 16.

Current dog is a lab/Australian shepherd mix. He is an elderly gent now (13 years old) and has always been a good dog. He has gone pretty much deaf and the back legs are getting arthritis. I fear that in within the next year or two I'll have a hard decision to make.

A very large Mutt(Akita/Lab mix if I had to guess) from the pound. He lived for 17 years after I adopted him. He was maybe 1-2 years old when I adopted him. Easy to train, very territorial at home, a giant goof ball when at the dog park. Great with babies, toddlers, kids, and most adults. He didn't like morbidly obese people for some reason. He died in my arms at the vet. It's been 7 years. I have since adopted another mutt(GSP/Lab/probably bully or pit). She looks like a GSP with a giant head and the tail hasn't been docked. Anyway, amazing with babies, kids, and most adults. This one hates my neighbors. She hunts small animals in my yard with the Schnauzer, although the Schnauzer is the one that kills everything.

Labradoodle

We got a female black labradoodle when my boys were younger. Tried a rescue lab first but he was psycho - so my wife talked me into a doodle after visiting a friend with one.

She is the sweetest smartest animal I’ve ever been around. Plays hide and seek and has a crazy vocabulary for a dog. Doesn’t chew up her toys and knows them all by name. Knows all of our names. She sleeps with my youngest and every morning comes down and goes to everyone and gives them a good morning lick. Doesn’t mess with any of the kids stuffed animals or clothes….only thing she’ll get is my socks (nobody else’s) and parade around in front of me when she wants attention. Doesn’t shed, doesn’t get that dog smell.

Only downside is she still has a lot of energy and is a scaredy-cat. She gets behind me if something startles her. A big angry dog at the park barked at her in the parking lot and she jumped into our SuV and sat in the drivers seat facing the other direction. We think she’s scared of the dark too.

Truly an amazing animal.

A corgi's a great dog. They shed and they're herding dogs by nature so they need a yard, but I'd recommend the breed to anyone.

Go to the pound and save a life. Mixed breeds and pure breeds of all types.

That said, all of my dogs have been great. Mixed breeds, Czech and German working line shepherds, collies, Aussies, Staffy. The only one I wouldn’t recommend with young children is the Aussie. She was amazing, but did go for the heels bc it’s what herding breeds do. While collie and shepherd are also herding breeds, they didn’t exhibit the herding nip.

My Visla is 8. Great dog. He's very active when he's up and does require plenty exercise but hes also good about entertaining himself chasing birds and bugs. As is their reputation they are very clingy but in a good way. Very clean and never smells. Not aggressive at all and much smarter than I had anticipated. Very quick to house train. Been a great family companion

I have two dogs, both mixed breeds. One has jack russell in her. She has a lot of energy, but is the sweetest dog ever. Her favorite things in life are:

- Chasing shite especially squirrels.
- Being petted.
- Eating
- Sleeping

She will stay outside and just run around chasing birds, squirrels, etc. When she is ready to come in its like she expects you to pet her. If you are watching TV she has to be right by you and she uses her nose to try to move your arm so you can pet her. She is 12 years old so she sleeps a good bit so she plays and runs around in the moring then sleeps the rest of the day, then right before sun set she will get an energy boost and go run around for a little bit then wants to be petted, then sleep. Between 8:30 and 9PM every night.

My other dogs stays by me all the time. He goes out and plays with the girl dog I just described, but only if I go outside. They play with each other in the house, but sometimes they play and then it turns into one getting mad at the other and they fight, then 2 mins later they are playing again.
