If you're willing to bypass Louisiana and into blues, Clarksdale, Mississippi may be worth consideration. I can't vouch for the city myself, but am interested in going myself to check out blues action they have going.

Look...I love the Delta, but my head is on a swivel at night. shite gets real there.

Stay uptown and walk magazine st or stay in warehouse district. Ignore the french quarter all together. Nowhere listed in this thread has nearly the level of shops and restaurants found in these two areas of Nola.

If you really don't want nola, covington is the correct answer.

Hammond and Ponchatoula are both great and OP can basically have two small city downtowns in one since Hammond and Ponchatoula are less than 15 minutes apart.

Those are the scenic nice “Main Street” areas of louisiana. Everything else is a shithole of either crime and filth, or a town time left behind
