Well, she batted an eye but is about it so far... That's some strong convection wrapping the eye again

All three levels if water vapor showing how well it has wrapped up those recent bursts.

That's why I was laughing at the dry air comments earlier.

This broad is eating that air for dinner.

Better hope for more than the best. Better hope for a damn miracle, some kind of cosmic Hail Mary pass completion.

I’d like to ride one out on an island but only if I know I could get out as soon as it’s over

So…this storm is headed to the north side of Jamaica?

Thought the same. Last few frames look like the eye will skirt the northern side on the current trajectory, maybe even split Jamaica and Cuba

Same. It would be cool ride out a cat 5 on the down wind side of a mountain resort and be able fly out the next day.

Yeah. I don’t like that. The less north the better.

That's what I was thinking this time last night, but with the northern shifts it puts that side of the island with stronger onshore flow that will be constant until Barrel has passed the island. That shift changed my thinking. You'd be fine with the wind in a high end resort, and you'd be high enough that surge shouldn't kill you, but the aftermath would be a bastard. If you're not in it solely for the experience and documenting the storm, it would be hard to make the call to stay.

Jamaica is so fricked

Feel bad for those stuck there and those who live there. Gilbert hit Jamaica with 125 mph sustained and gusts up to 150 mph. Killed 49 and left 800,000 homeless. Damage was close to $1B. Gilbert basically traversed the entire island. Could be a repeat.

Jamaica is not that big. I would say shear would be a bigger factor to it’s getting weaker.
