Leaving out of Houston to Cancun on the 15th. I should be good right?
this particular storm will be out of there by then, yes... as far as where you are going in Cancun, and how well they make out with this storm, guess remains to be seen...
if i were you, i'd be preparing as if i'm not going to be going to on vacation then...
we are going to Isla Mujeres in August, hopefully, and that's provided they don't get wiped out pretty good too...

I’m supposed to be going Monday. Just got to wait it out and see what happens. Sucks cause we are doing a Vrbo and he’s booked the rest of the month otherwise I would just try to push back a few days.

They bite when the weather is a particular way and staying on the forecast is crucial in his industry. Aren’t you a postman?

I didn’t copy it. It’s mine whether it’s right or wrong

It looks much worse at ground level. There are structures standing, but everything is shredded.
ETA: The island inhabitants seem like cool people, just lost everything but still smiling.

Water vapor really shows how compact Barrel is. It is starting to stretch out a bit, but is still a small storm.

So far, data from the aircraft (courtesy of @HRD_AOML_NOAA ) shows that while there may be some concentric banding around #Beryl's eye, there is no distinct secondary wind maximum at this time. If another ERC is to occur, it may be a little ways away yet. The onset of stronger vertical shear may soon dominate the storm's evolution anyway, potentially preventing another ERC.

Yes. Which requires me to have basic understanding of many different fields including weather. Weather affects me more than anything so I picked up interest in it as a hobby and study it when I can. If I can look at and understand the long range models (not just hurricanes but everything) rather than rely on the local weatherman to tell me and get it right it helps with decision making.
Examples: if I see rainy patterns coming I will harvest ponds that are harder to get to due to poor gravel while it’s dry. A cold front that can cause disease outbreaks I can start treatments before disease hits. A heat wave I will pump cool water into ponds ahead of time to cut down on oxygen problems. A hard freeze I will set wells to pump water to keep ponds thawed, as icing over traps gases and causes fish kill.

Plus, you come from a long line of rooftop tornado spotters. Never leave that part out. It is my favorite.

Yes. That is the west side of the island and the water hitting the shoreline there was only wind-driven waves. The east side of the island is probably much worse especially waterfront buildings that got surge and the full momentum of the storm coming in from the east.
