Traffic citations are an additional tax on mainly poor people and another infringement on civil liberties. The abuse of this police power is one of the main driving factors of this BLM crap. Furthermore, you can’t have a crime without a victim. Not sure how we ever allowed the state to fine us for not stopping at a stop sign..... it’s one of the few things BLM got right.

The one thing I never understood was cops always talk about how dangerous traffic stops are. If they are so dangerous why is it worth putting your self in such a dangerous situation for a tail light out or expired inspection sticker.

Traffic stops are a relic of a time when automobiles were dangerous toys for the rich. Ordinary people rode horses back then, and people on horses didn't get pulled over. They wouldn't have accepted it. So the cops used the transition to motored transport as a way to sneak the concept of the traffic stop into everyday life. No free nation would tolerate such a thing.

The whole reason you sign the forms and your signature appears on the license is because you knowingly and willingly signed a Contract with the State agreeing to abide by the laws, rules, regulations and their repercussions for breaking the contract, i.e., breaking the traffic laws.
I guess mortgage contracts, property ownership in all forms, is anathema to you also since that also involves contractual agreement.

That's just asinine. There's no contract on a driver's license. The laws that enabled the traffic stop, establish "implied consent" for breathalyzers and blood draws, etc., were passed before any of us were born. They don't require our signature.

Maybe because they are paid to protect? And while a busted tail light may not be a huge deal at that moment, if the other one goes out then you have someone driving around at night with NO tail lights.
As for inspection stickers, I got nothing. It's a money grab both coming and going.

The vast majority of traffic stops are for revenue generation. The war on drugs is nothing more than a money grab supported by the Swiss cheese that was once the 4th amendment.

No shite. Last time I got stopped it was for a burned out headlight (in the early morning light so really didn't even need them on) and the guy acted like he was approaching Al Capone's car.

Speed limits are ridiculous in the first place - let drivers decide the speeds with which they are comfortable. I promise you most reasonably skilled drivers with well-maintained vehicles can safely cruise at about 110 on good interstates.

It has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with being able to pull over people as they see fit.
Take New York for example, the official speed limit for most of the interstates is either 55 or 65 mph depending on which one you are on, so it is a turkey shoot when literally everyone is going 75 or 80. They were designed with 80 mph speed limits in mind. Multiple times it has been discussed to raise speed limits consistent with best engineering practices.
While DOT has been on board I will give you two guesses who stands opposed based on law enforcement and financial concerns.
