Nah, you'll still be wishing for 21.

I turn 40 next month and it really hit me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere the other night. I kept thinking that if I live to be my grandfather's age (81), my life is halfway over. And that's like best case scenario. I've been dwelling on that for the past couple days and I'm really having a tough time right now wrapping my head around the end.

I'm in the same boat. Turn 40 pretty soon and it's been rougher than I thought it would be. Really taking stock of everything I have, have been through, what future may hold, etc. more than usual.

Seeing my parents get old and crippled with various ailments has also been worse than I ever imagined.

I do wish I could afford to have a cliche mid-life crisis where I buy a sports car or meet a younger woman, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards.

I'm soon to be 72 and there are times I think back to my much younger days and in the end it is mostly just looking through the proverbial "Rose Colored Glasses" where I remember only the good times and not the struggles that made me what I am today.

Bottom line, I keep the nostalgia in perspective like when I think about getting into the Saenger Theater for first run feature films in the mid 60's for $1 and spend $1.50 at the concession stand for popcorn, large drink and a couple candy bars............................reality is, I was making all of $1.25 an hour at my menial job at the time------------and there's the perspective.

This is good advice and so true, it's interesting that we tend to gold plate the memories rather than dwell on the bad parts (usually).

I am not one to get deep in to lyrics of a song looking for meaning. I listen more for a good groove or beat.

But this song by Tame Impala really spoke to me when it came out a few years ago. Like I felt like he was talking specifically to me. And the video is just incredibly thought provoking as well.

At 50 the warranty on your body parts expires and minor aches and pains appear. At 60 every prior orthopedic injury or surgery will revisit you. In your eighth decade you may have more doctors than close life long friends still alive.

You’ve got a long, long way to go and then one day wake up and wonder how it went by so fast.

I thought it would take longer to get old. Take care of your body along the journey, health is everything.

Dude 31 - 45 is the best time for men, especially if you're not married.

Stop looking back and

1. get in the best shape of your life
2. be confident and strive to make each subsequent year your best ever
3. kick arse at work
4. strive for excellence in all facets of life (work, fitness, social / family, side hustle)

ETA: disregard if you are bald and/or ugly

It's really the kid thing for me. Mine are still really young, so I'll be falling apart while doing baseball practices. It helps that I've been an office blob for a couple decades and I'm getting in more or less the best shape of my adult life at this age. I'm hopeful it'll mask the aches and pains a bit (or at least keep me from noticing the difference).

I do not look forward to aging out of little kid life, although everyone tells me regular big kid life is pretty good too. By the time I'm not the center of someone's world I'll probably be on a jello diet anyway.

I’m 32. I miss all the free time I had in my 20s. All the dumb shite I did can stay in the past, though.

I’ll take the 4-10 range again…
Teenage girl- enough said! But, since she’s moved to college, I can stand to be around her more. Guess she’s growing up and realizing stuff…

Teenage boy- just hoping I can go 4-5 more years without punching him in the face. Attitude, back talk, not caring about anything…. Not easy. Hard to accept that you’ve been his hero, etc. forever, and now sometimes he won’t even like you.

BUT- I’ll miss all that stuff too.

It was fun, and easy (unlike girls) or at least mine was, although it was just 1 lol.

If they are intimates and decent at them, quit thinking you are
Going to save $$$, unless you’re a baller.

“Travel ball” as some out it, is really the only option if they are any good- baseball and basketball wise. Football is still local which is good.

I really don’t remember going through this stage. I was too busy with work and raising kids and the responsibilities that goes with it. I guess looking to the future instead of longing for the past was more my bag.

But nothing wrong with reminiscing for sure and you’re fortunate to have good memories of the past. Something to be very grateful for..

I'm closing in on 72 and am living the above nightmare. My right ankle started giving me bad problems in June of 23 and I had a surgery to repair it in late October the same year.

Still having issues and it is going to require another surgery scheduled for next Thursday.

All this due to a bad fall and serious ligament damage to my ankle when I was 35.

Also had to have my rt. ACL replaced in 94 and recently found out it is now shot to hell and a knee replacement is recommended.

Getting older ain't for the squeamish.

Wait until you hit your 60s! I recently attended my 50th HS reunion which turned out to be a very nice event. It was great seeing old classmates and laughing together about old times together. I found it interesting to see how we all aged over the years and most of us were enjoying our lives in retirement. Other classmates were in very poor health. One of the topics that arises in a 50th reunion is who died. 39 of our classmates had passed prior to our reunion and just today I received an email about another classmate who died today. That number is going to start increasing quickly. I thought about the fact that with the exception of a small group of those classmates who I keep in touch with, that reunuon was the last time to see the others who were there. It doesn't bother me, it's just the way it is as you age throughout your life. Enjoy the time you have and laugh at the good memories.
