Ah, this week's variation of "the OT hates everything about weddings thread"...
Weddings are absolutely a blast, but they are economic burdens on friends, especially younger ones who are just starting families.

The biggest issue occurs with those who do destination weddings.

It's not like you're forced to go to any wedding.

These threads are always hilarious. "make your wedding cheaper because I'm too poor to go."

It's their day, not yours. You don't have to go.

Weddings have changed over the years. Back in the day when I stood in my friends' weddings, it was pretty much just the tux that was an expense. The bachelor party was mostly going out for a night on the town - a couple of adult establishments, a club or two, etc. Maybe a little more expensive than a normal weekend night when we were all single, but nothing extravagant.

Once the girls started with bachelorette parties, it seems like now there has to be a trip involved. Kind of a vacation I guess. And whoever invented the idea of storms should be ashamed of himself or herself.

All in all, weddings and wedding receptions just seem to have gotten out of control a bit. The reception used to be more like a fais-do-do. You got a local band, somebody made a big pot of jambalaya, there were some finger sandwiches and the like, someone bought a few kegs and a bunch of gallons of whiskey, and volia, everybody had a ball. Now it is all mostly catered stuff.

That's true. The problem is people who aren't rich and are spending $50-$100K in weddings. I've been in some

If your friend gets pissed that you can't attend their destination wedding because of financial concerns, they aren't your friend.

Also, I've been in a good 15-20 weddings and invited to who knows how many more...none have been "destination" weddings.

Between the 3 month salary engagement ring, the destination proposal trip, the bridezilla phenomenon, the pre-wedding bachelor/bachelorette destination vacations, the destination wedding vacations, and all other price tag inflating “must haves”, it’s like everybody has gone crazy.

I don't think I know a single person who has gotten married that has had all the "must haves" as you call them in your post.

Yep. Same with adults only receptions. We had one and faulted no one with kids for not coming. If someone can't afford child care plus travel and hotel, I don't blame them for not being able to come. Most reasonable people wouldn't blame then either.

As the father of a daughter, I just don't get that at all.

False.

It is the bride’s day.

No one gives a shite about the groom.

Okay? Still doesn't make it your day. The day is about the bride/couple, not any single guest.

That was a joke.

Jesus.

Take a step back and a deep breath.

A real friend wouldn't complain about any of that stuff, or feel like it was a burden.

The problem is these people (mostly chicks) try to include too many people and get outside their core group of friends.
