I've been a best man 3 times now and each time loved it. Yes, it comes with a bit more of a price tag but the experience of being there for guys I considered brothers was amazing...also was the best man for my dad on his hat trick wedding If you get asked to be standing along side someone on the biggest day of their life and you think of the price tag before anything, you probably never should have been asked

I'm perfectly calm. Jokes are usually at least slightly humorous. A sensible chuckle if you will.

It gets expensive, but I also wouldn't ignore the time commitment of being in the bridal party either. Nowadays you have to go to an engagement party, a couples shower, a bachelor party, rehearsal dinner, wedding, and possibly much more depending on how needy the bride is. If you ever find yourself in the bridal party for 2-3+ weddings in the same time frame, it takes over your life

There are definitely things I appreciate in a groom/couple to make things less expensive for their wedding party. The biggest one is just letting the groomsmen wear their own tuxes instead renting. As long as they are all black no one is going to notice or care what the collar the third groomsmen wears. This was a huge battle between my wife and I.

The female side that shite is insane. The dresses absolutely add up and most of them will only be worn once. It sucks. At least buying a tux has some value.

The rest of the spending can be wisely played as you get more wedding experience.

I’ve served in 20+ weddings and have never looked at it as a financial burden. We had some pretty extravagant bachelor parties so I’m not sure which was the most expensive

I thought my tally of 16 (counting since I turned 18 and had to pay for my own stuff) was a lot, but you're out there. Also more than half, maybe 2/3s involved travel where I had to spent time in another City.

That said....while I won't say some were financial burdens where I had to not pay bills or eat ramen for a month, many of the out-of-town weddings/bachelor parties ended up being my travel/vacation trips for the year.

Close to $1,000 for a few friends' weddings. Anytime I hear "destination" with regard to any part of a wedding, I cringe and want to punch the person.

I absolutely would notice that, and I can guarantee you many others would to. The last weeding I was in I bought shoes the day of the wedding because the tux shop told me the wrong info. I wasn't going to be the only one not matching.

Why is not looking like a slob a female trait?

Tuxes are fairly inexpensive to buy. In fact, I have recommended to several people to make a new tux be the groomsman gift. Solves several problems.

Yeah people definitely notice if one guy is the odd man out with a wing tip collar or vice versa. They may not care, but they will notice it.

I was asked (and said yes) to stand in both before "destination" got brought up, so I was between a rock and a hard place.

I've learned my lesson.

Drop out the wedding, it's not hard and your friend most likely would understand.

I don't think it was intentional, but it happened just the same. Like I said, I've learned. I'm standing in another wedding early next year and asked the proper questions first this time. Lol.
