Florida beach in early October is incredible. The weather is nice during the day and no one is there.
Once the last kid is off to college I may try the beach this time of year. We've been limited by school schedule for 20 years.

After living on a mountain for the past 10 years, I am really looking forward to moving back down to the south in the coming weeks and living on the shores of a private lake in NE Texas.
The mountains are nice, but winters are brutal and I really missed the water (the Great Salt Lake doesn't count). Beaches are great to visit, but I prefer living in a lake house with a couple wooded acres.

Beach is better
The sound of the water is soothing
Mountain with cold streams is a close second

Mountains. Deep in the back country away from everything.

Was in Breckenridge over 4th of July weekend. Incredible. Was in the smokies 2nd week of June. Very nice.
I Wil take mountains with lake access all day over pure beach.

Beach in the winter; Mountains in the summer. They are both great in the fall. The Rocky Mountains aren’t great in the spring because of snow melt.
That’s a generic comment. I like the Mountains and I have a second home in the Rockies. I just don’t like beaches much. They are boring.

If you spend enough time in in the mountains, you learn a really neat phrase:
"People come for the winters but stay for the summers"
Beach is the beach all year round. You buy a nice mountain home though and its basically two places given the time of year. Its amazing.

Count me in the mountains side of this. I've taken a shite-ton of long motorcycle road trips and they are almost exclusively to the mountains.
The Ozarks in Arkansas, the Rockies of Colorado, the Smokies in Tennessee and parts of N. Carolina.
I've been to those 3 chains several times each. The Ozarks and Smokies are full of tight, twisty roads that keeps me on my toes negotiating them whereas the Rockies are full of long sweepers that allow a rider to maintain a pretty constant speed and take in more of the scenery.

I love the mountains and dont really care about the beach, personally.
...But my kids LOVE the beach and playing in the sand. Which means they can play and have fun and I can sit and drink and relax, so the beach is great with young kids. Just remember to apply sunscreen regularly and bring a tent.

That’s my dilemma. But the wife, family and kids love the beach and I put up with it for them. I spend more time on patio or by the pool than on the beach.
When I was young I liked it though. The mountains and a lake like Lake Oachita are more my speed now.

Mountains. Preferably away from civilization.
For me it’s an easy choice. Exactly how you said it

I’ve considered both (plus lake house) over the last ~20 yrs. Ultimately settled on the beach.
Mountains are beautiful but i found they get boring, cold, and lonely.
Beach just delivers more of my liking, and I’ve sonce learned how to deal with the sand.

There’s a lot less to do at the beach, for me at least.

I spent the day on a lake in the mountains of Montana today. Pretty tough to beat, best of both worlds

Mountains by far. The gulf coast is so overcrowded it’s become a pure hell.
