There is a misnomer that it's a "bunch of libs" leaving California. Actually many are conservatives, liberals, etc. heading for the suburbs of DFW and Austin, not all Travis Heights or south Congress.
Either way, politics is not why they're leaving Cali as clearly noted in the survey results.

Crony capitalism at best. Government restriction on the free market at worst.

This place sucks to raise a family and housing prices are 1.2 mil at minimum for dog shite

The Woodlands can't even have a business sign taller than maybe 6 feet on the street side. Would they approve high rise condos within their neighborhoods?

Too bad they'll bring their filthy social-and-liberalism with them to wherever they move.

I’m surprised they don’t stay in California and implement rent control and price caps and bring in more Section 8.
"NIMBY" - California Libs

Of course you're right. But that's not the mental image this place likes. This place likes fear and loathing.

Let me settle this. I and the company I work for design energy infrastructure all over the country. Pipelines, LNG ports, Solar farms, wind farms, etc...
California is the worst place to build anything like this in the US because of the public opposition...even for wind and solar energy. Not a lot of companies want to waste their time in Cali.
If the same thing translates to new subdivisions and condos then it's definitely the NIMBY folks who are creating this shortage.
And NIMBY people are equally Red and Blue, its not bound to political affiliation.

I know, half of California has moved to north DFW in the past five years.
Including Toyota, Bank of America and so on and so on
My property taxes are killing me

Actually capitalism is about supply and demand; with an increased demand the market would produce an increased supply.
It's the leftist policies from the California gov't that are preventing more housing from being built, preventing the free market from providing a supply of housing in response to this demand

I think that some here are saying that the San Jose area is super restrictive with regards to approving new high-rise residential.

I live in West Austin and am seeing the same thing. Most of our California friends (newly arrived past 10 years) tend to be fiscally conservative and socially moderate.

This is not good news. Not for California, but for those places they move to with all their weird arse ideas and messed up value shite.

$1.12 million, 1425 square feet, 2 bedroom..

shite
My cousins bought a 3 bed 2 bath 1526 sq ft house last year for 980k in San Rafael
And that was actually a steal. An all cash buyer offered 300k more, but it was an older family moving out and they wanted it to go to a young family and not someone looking for an investment

Oh it most certainly is, their just not smart enough to understand the correlation between the two.
Although the lack of high-rise buildings might have something to do with earthquakes, which would be understandable.

Wage disparity and the hoarding of wealth are also big factors.
Everyone has the right to affordable, decent housing.
