That's like saying having reliable transportation is a right

The 2008 housing crisis and the prices being paid in the Bay Area now have almost nothing in common. Sub prime mortgages and cash buying investors and supply are not the same thing.
I agree. Additionally, this situation is much more localized. 2008 was a much larger event.

Affordable, decent housing isn't a right
Yes, it is and if it is not it should be.
So the supposed greatest country in the world can't provide decent housing for everyone.

Sorry comrade but "rights" aren't freebies that the government gives you.
They are things that can only be taken from you.

Stay the frick away from Texas. Pouring into Austin is ruining that city. Dallas and Houston can't support all these loons.

That’s certainly why I come here. If this place was fair and balanced it’d be boring.

I had a discussion with someone in Katy who was bemoaning the lack of “affordable housing” and she thought I was mean and ridiculous for suggesting that the lack of affordable housing was the very reason Katy is nice and the very reason we live there.

And NIMBY people are equally Red and Blue, its not bound to political affiliation.
But how will I ever know how to feel about it if I can't stick a political label on it!?

From someone who travels to San Fran regularly, Im not exactly sure where they could cram more housing
They would need to mow down a lot of houses for denser complexes. They would lose character and what not

I hate the govt, so I will admit this is hypocritical of me, but I would rather San Fran not just become a high rise residential city.
If it is the cities own people voting for the building restrictions I guess that is fine. If it is simply the politicians passing them than that is wrong

The Woodlands can't even have a business sign taller than maybe 6 feet on the street side.
Many ATL suburbs have the same regulation, and 6’ shrubs lining the sidewalks.
So free market responds. Businesses are signing up so they can “signal” their business to your GPS as you pass by.

It's more related to globalization and the centralization of available jobs. I would argue that the supposed job of the country is to prevent this becoming a problem. Government however, has been in the pocket of business almost since the ink dried on the constitution.
The supposed greatest country bit is marketing.

I guess, I am just sort of sick of hearing about it since the solution is fairly simple. However, most cities don’t want to be Houston which is understandable
San Fran is also really small so it’s not like they can build out and getting into the cities blows so living in Oakland isn’t ideal.

This. I also think its laughable to stay that people are leaving the area due to housing prices. If prices are going up and staying up, that means the market is good not bad. That argument makes no sense.
Anyone on a reasonable salery is pretty much priced out of the city limits of San Francisco. There are a grand total of 58 apartments under 2k for rent on Zillow and most are 375-600 sq feet studios.

Theoretically, yes, but tell that to the property companies in Atlanta. There are thousands of vacant apartments and condos scattered across the city because they overdeveloped, yet rent prices continue to rise month after month.
