Nearly half of Bay Area residents say they want to leave

Forty-six percent of Bay Area residents surveyed said they are likely to move out of the region in the next few years — up from 40 percent last year and 34 percent in 2016

They couldn’t be more clear what the big problems are — and it is exclusively about the cost of housing,” said John Grubb, chief operating officer for the Bay Area Council.

Texas, Oregon and Nevada were the most popular out-of-state destinations, capturing 10 percent, 9 percent and 8 percent of potential movers, respectively.

Their likelihood to move could be 5% yet they are still “likely” to move. I’m curious if everyone has a job lined up where they are going.

Except when they move to places like Texas they enact the same policies that caused them to leave California

Well, the cost of things there is just stupid, especially housing. Way overpriced for what it's truly worth.

This is a big problem. Let's move somewhere new and vote the same way! That will work!

Actually, they don't. An extremely high percentage of the newcomers are paying cash for houses in D/FW. Houses are getting over ask and multiple offers due to the boom in corporate relo here. The Cali refugees are seeing easier times like they've never had.

So it’s a story about people’s feelings?

This x1000. When I grew up in Vegas this was why the locals hated Californians. Now see where it is

And locking out actual Texans from the housing market.

BTW, that market has been exhausted. I've seen more houses come down 15-20k in the last two months than in 3 years.

You have the wrong realtor source to believe that.

I hate to break it to you but your wrong at least for North Dallas.

Buying a home is like #1 item for me right now. I've been pretty vocal on here over the past few years about housing being ridiculous. Prices have come down for areas I'm looking in. However, if you factor the whole housing market, of course, it's still up.

Should be prime time to sign a deal then.

I think you're both sort of right. Many houses are still being bought with cash and many over asking. However, it's not an absolute frenzy like it was 2 years ago. Then, a house literally wouldn't be on the market 4 hours and it would sell well above asking. Now it's at least somewhat under control.

Those poor bastards, leaving paradise for Texas. At least when we left San Francisco we moved to New Orleans.

Lack of affordable housing is not the result of socialism.

Its capitalism.

Unfortunately they do.

Voting stats from Collin County, Texas (a popular landing spot for former California residents) per Wikipedia show that between the 2012 and 2016 elections, there was nearly a 40,000 increase in votes for the Democrat candidate (as opposed to barely a 5,000 increase for the Republican candidate). This translates to an increase from 33.4% to 38.6% for blue politics.

By contrast, neighboring Denton County only saw an increase from 33.4 to 37.1 percent in Democrat voting (despite having University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University; university towns tend to be more liberal than their counterparts and Collin County has only a community college).

In all fairness, they really only have the Packers, cheese, and those miserably cold winters.
