Except that local government regulation will not allow for high rise buildings to house More people, effectively limiting the number of people able to live there. That’s not capitalism, that’s government regulation. See Austin as exhibit B as well

Your voting stats don't have anything to do with the reason they are leaving. According to the article, it's housing cost. I based my entire point on it.

They will infect other states with their politics.
On the bright side they may bring an appreciation for new kinds of restaurants.

Bingo. It’s very hard to create more dense housing or transit oriented development.

Lack of affordable housing is not the result of socialism. Its capitalism.
Actually capitalism is about supply and demand; with an increased demand the market would produce an increased supply.
It's the leftist policies from the California gov't that are preventing more housing from being built, preventing the free market from providing a supply of housing in response to this demand. So with the gov't imposed prevention of new housing (reduced supply) the demand for housing caused that artificially reduced supply to cost more. So folks vote with their feet; if they can't afford the restricted housing their moving will eventually allow the supply and demand to even out. Right?

It’s not. The government cannot (yet) set prices for anything and everything, and this makes celticdog sad. What she doesn’t understand is that if you artificially limit supply of something, the market will in fact price that commodity appropriately. Let the free market provide a greater supply, costs will go down

So you believe capitalism is a system that does NOT attempt to meet consumer demand?
Study harder.

I’m surprised they don’t stay in California and implement rent control and price caps and bring in more Section 8.

A lot of it has to do with the amount of taxes. I was talking to a guy I work with based out of San Fran and he is considering moving due to taxes and overall cost of living even though his house has been paid for in full.

He would be smart to. Sell at market value, move to Texas, pay cash and live without state tax. He could get 4,000 sf north of 121 for 500k in the right spot. 12-15k in prop taxes per year and the leftovers are for buying a kick arse boat to get drunk on.

IF the demand ever drops, that high handedly will fix the housing issue.

I mean, I'm too old and was too stupid to do it but if a smart IT kid reading can get to the west coast, make some bank and buy property? Do it. Your 10 year plan can bring you back east without debt.
