We paid for everything - as did our parents.

Was quite a chunk of change but no regrets.

Youngest worked at the college so her's was paid for. We helped with things such as airfare, vehicles, insurance and the likes.

Tuitions, cars, insurance, housing, food, medical insurance, clothing, books. Everything I would pay as I did up until university. They have part-time gigs that they use for savings and their extra curricular activities.

I am not forcing the bird out of the nest scenario, but am encouraging my children to greatness through love, teaching, and financial assistance. I was given much. It's my turn to do my best for them.

2 in college. Older one essentially had his college paid for, so we help with car insurance, his share of the house rent and utilities, and usually just when he has a big expense he needs to cover. He works about 30 hours a week plus his school, so he takes care of himself pretty well. The wife will make a trip to his house to clean and go shopping for food and whatever he may need every month or two.

Younger one finished his freshman year in May, and will be finding a job going forward. He worked through high school, and summers solidly. We pay truck payment, insurance, generally buy books, and pay for his housing and meal plan. Most of his tuition is going to a student loan, unfortunately.

I've never made as much money, and been as poor, in my life. I commented in the "Who has it worse" thread, middle and upper middle class folks get the shaft. You make too much money to score on grants or much financial assistance, but don't make enough to pay for college.

I'm going to write a book one day. Working title is "Stories from the Poor House."

My youngest is working on his master's. He has an assistantship that pays most of his tuition plus a little extra. We help him out with gas, cellphone, medical insurance, and auto insurance.

For one, I pay tuition, rent and give her a set amount each month that she uses for food and entertainment. It's not an overly generous amount, so she also has a part-time job since freshmen year. We split her car note and insurance premiums. I also pay her sorority dues. There are other small items she manages to talk me into paying along the way.

The other has a full ride scholarship, so at the moment we are paying nada. But in a few months when he gets settled in we are going to pay for a car and will pay his insurance.

I don't understand parents who tell kids they are on their own after high school. To me, it's part of what I signed up for when I joined the daddy club.

If I am going to push them academically for 12 years, demand excellence, and constantly hold college over them as the goal, how can I not pay for college?

Paid for room and board, car and insurance, and incidentals. Scholarship covered her tuition and fee costs. Still adds up but something I felt personally I should do for my child as long as she did her part making the grades. Med School is on her, student loans and if necessary I'll cosign. I'll have to pay the living expenses for her.

I have one that graduated already, 2 currently in college and 1 in hi school. 3 college aged kids all had TOPS, we live in LA. They lived at home and did RPCC for 1st 2 yrs with me paying whatever TOPS didn't cover. I bought them cheap cars($5K) and insurance, they pay for gas, phone, and extras. Anything over 8 semesters because of fails, drops, change of major, they took out a loan. Oldest graduated LSU with about $2500 in student loans. We live 25 miles from LSU, so they will all graduate from there. Wouldn't pay anything for living on campus. They all worked to make their own money while attending. My part after TOPS while they attended CC was about $400/semester, while attending LSU $3500/semester.

Bought my son an older model civic but make him pay for insurance.

Bought him a laptop and everything he needed for dorm.

He pays everything else.

Essentially I set him up to be able to support himself. He’s doing well and entering year 2

Tuition? Car note? Car insurance? Apartment?

All that and then some.....meal plans, plane tickets, clothing, spending cash. Two down and one to go. My daughter would have preferred to go to Boston University for $60K a year. I said "no" to that. I would have gladly paid for Ivy League tuition but not other ridiculous private school tuition rates. We have a fricked up culture of debt in this country but my kids were fortunate to graduate without a penny od student debt.
