We have had a VW Atlas for almost a year now.
No problems and love it, but it's not really German.

I’m on my 3rd straight Audi. Haven’t had any issues. Best cars on the road.
Same here. I’ve had an s5, then an sq5, and now we’ve added a Q7.
I love audi’s styling, comfort and power.
If you can afford it, and you enjoy cars, why not?

My 3 Series has been fantistic 3 years in, I live in the city so I don’t put any miles on it, about to clock 23k so I guess I’m not much help
I will say my parents old 3 series from when I was a kid was a hoss, mom wrecked it 3 times and always got it fixed, she loved that thing. The superior handling is what does it for me.

I love my Mercedes.
In general, German cars provide a much better driving experience.
Reliability is much improved on Mercedes, BMW, and Audi cars since 2010, and Porsche has always been solid.
Repairs are needed with a little more frequency than their American and Japanese counterparts, but this is offset with the quality of the driving experience.
The repairs are ALWAYS more expensive than in similar American and Japanese cars.
Seems to me most people that bash luxury German brands can’t afford them, and/or can’t afford the upkeep. It’s worth it to me. If you’re happy in your Honda, or Toyota, or ‘Fancy Toyota’ (Lexus), that’s great. I love my Merc and I can afford to keep it road-ready because it’s such a pleasure to drive.

Own a BMW Z4 and MB GLK350, both purchased after the big depreciation hits. Maintenance hasn't been an issue but it can get expensive quick if the wrong things break on you. That said, the drive quality, handling, power, and comfort are unmatched, imo.
I think BMWs are better engineered vehicles for driving but MBs just scream luxury and comfort, especially the interiors. With our GLK, it was a choice between a new CR-V/Rogue or a 3yo MB with 25k miles on it for roughly the same price. After driving, it didn't require much of a decision as to which to get.
I've only owned one Audi and it was when I was 16 (1986 5000cs) and it was a piece of shite....powerful, but a piece of shite. My brother has a Q5 and he loves it. I've driven it and it seems very nice.

Make sure you have the fake EU license plate in the front like a good gay boy.

I leased an S3 and put a tune on it. Most fun car I've ever owned.

I’m targeting a 2011-14 S4 with a stick. So post-depreciation.
Any baws had issues with the timing tensioner on the 3.0? I’ve read that’s a common issue.

I'm gonna be traveling a bunch, and am thinking hard about getting a CL65. I'm expecting to spend a bunch on repairs, but frick it, it's a 615hp V12. I can ride around town flipping everyone the bird, because I know I have a V12, and they don't

No - get a Lexus. Far more reliable and much cheaper maintenance

A couple years ago my pops had a bit of a late life crisis and got a one year old S63. Holy hell did that tank fricking fly. He got rid of it for a truck after a year because he thought it drew too much attention with his clients and needed something to haul the boat. Man do I miss that thing.

The only other cars I've considered are an S6, M5, E63, and C63. The E63 looks like a mom car, so I threw that one out. I abhor BMW's iDrive, so that one was gone. All that was left was the S6, C63, and CL65. The two former couldn't hold a candle to the CL, but I can get newer ones for the same price.

We've had a 5 series BWM for 4 years. maintenance has been low and warranty for routine stuff has been low.

I have an 2010 Audi A6. Got it shortly after my 99' Grand Prix crapped out. I personally love it. Drive smooth, looks great, no major issues.
I've had to put it in the shop for maintenance but that due to normal wear and tear. If you're a "fix it myself" kind of guy as i was, it'll be a bit harder since Audi (for example) has everything closer together/tight under the hood. And some covers can't be removed without doing it a certain way.
As far as cost, i pay about $100/tire. Oil changes roughly $80 (discounted) when i don't do it myself. When i put in the shop, had about 4 things done to it which cost roughly $2000 (routers, shocks, had a misfire, and brake pads). But Audi will give you free stuff like small maintenance and oil changes as well.
When i got my car it had 55k miles on it and i've driven it up to now 129k miles and didn't have an issue in between that time. But i believe thats because audi, out of some of the other German cars, is more efficient. Just don't get a BMW
