So they gave him another 15K miles on the powertrain warranty
Bumper to bumper does not equal power train.

Cars get stuff replaced in them all the time due to defective components prior to sale. Fact
A little unusual for an entire engine to be replaced, unless Chevrolet realized something was wrong with a number of the engines and jjust had the dealership replace the entire the engine.
Not sure of the price, dickhead, but if I drop 90k on a fricking car, that motherfricker would be untouched in any way by the device dept, much less have a fricking motor issue. If disclosed, the buyer would have demanded a discount because that is no longer a "new" car...or, he would order a new one and wait....or, drive down the dam road and buy FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE.....now there's your issue, the dealer purposely didn't disclose this info so they could get the sell.....clear as day and is literally illegal.
That engine was replaced because it was in fact DAMAGED. Why else replace it? And the dealer has now hung themselves with some dumb stating the law, yet trying to convince us the engine was changed for some other reason....LOL, maybe it was the wrong color?

Numbers matching does add value, but only to old cars. Back in the day it was common to be on the second engine before 100,000 miles.

Serial #s don't match...shows on carfax, dealers don't manufacture cars. Etc etc etc....
Again, if disclosed, dude demands a discount or gets another car ordered, or from someone else

A buddy had something similar happen with a brand new Ferrari. He got it off the truck at his house took his first drive and the motor threw metal out the exhaust about 5 miles down the road.
Ferrari replaced the motor but he had them refund his purchase price and went with a Lamborghini instead.

You lost me at "bought a new corvette"...

If the factory updated their records with the new engine serial number then what is devalued here? This is a run-of-the-mill Corvette, not something Don Yenko built 50 years ago; it has none of the value some of you seem to imagine it has lost from having its engine replaced at the dealer under factory orders.

Bc I don’t know anyone who’d want to pay full new car price for a car that already needed a new engine. And it sounds like this guy already had an issue after just 250 Miles.

Exactly, I don't want a transmission and engine that weren't put together at factory....AND already in for service? frick that! Damn 100k car!

Obviously the factory is sending out shite if it showed up with a check engine light.

What if it threw a fault code that they felt could return in the future. Especially one that the source couldn't be determined or they couldn't repeat.
Chevrolet isn't going to scrap the whole car because of a spurious fault code.

Who here honestly thinks a dealership tech installing an engine into an assembled car is the same as the factory putting one in during vehicle assembly?

they would be giving me a brand new vette, or there would be a lawsuit.. end of story. We are not talking about a piece of shite toyota.. we are talking about a vette. im not spending 70grand on a vehicle with an engine replaced in it. Hell no
Posted on 12/23/17 at 8:40 pm to jbgleason
I would think they are more similar than we would like to believe.
This coming from someone who just had the entire engine and transmission ripped out, rebuilt, and reinstalled at the dealership because of slack in the piston pins.

So your belief is that one new engine is better than another new engine.

Since when is a Z51 spec Vette 100k? Shouldn't it be closer to mid to low 60's?

What I find shady as frick is that the dealership knew of the motor being replaced but didn't tell the sales team. SHADY AS frick!
Someone shopping for a sweet sports car like that would be less likely to buy it new if they knew the engine was replaced at 7 miles. No fricking wonder why they didn't tell the sales team. Most people would move on the next car after hearing that shite.

The entire point of a Corvette is it’s originality. In order for one to have a chance at appreciation, they need to be numbers matching. That car is certainly devalued.
This is not a 60s split window coupe, or other classic vette, we will all be driving electric cars long before this car ever increases in value.

Exactly. I don't want Billy Bob at Gerry Lane swapping my engine on my 70k vette in the corner of a dealership next to the oil change booth.
