The guy should have contacted Chevy or GM corporate.
I bought an F-150 around 2004 and I noticed a lifter noise the very same day. I brought it to the dealership to get checked out but they said they couldn’t find anything wrong (they didn’t even drive it because no miles were put on it). I drove it off the lot, got it up to speed so the noise was present, and drove it right back to them. They still couldn’t find the cause.
I called Ford corporate and they sent their own tech to the dealership. Turned out that it needed a new engine. Corporate gave me a brand new truck 1 trim level up for no difference in price. Never take no for an answer from a dealership on issues like this.
