Baton Rouge Zoo should relocate

Accompanied my daughter on a field trip to the zoo. The grounds are decent enough and the crowds are low, but I couldn’t help but wish that we had a destination zoo that the greater Baton Rouge area could be proud of. I believe location is the key to such low crowds and turnout.

More like it should close

Oh so you saying the zoo sucks cause it’s in a predominantly black neighborhood?

LSU, Exxon and the zoo should all relocate. Let BR become Jackson just like the current BR leadership wants.

You talking about north BR?

No, it sucks AND it’s in a predominantly black neighborhood. It would be better if it was closer to the people in AP, LP, and SBR who actually go to the zoo. Study after study has shown the people living near the zoo never go there.

Houston Zoo is nice. Right by the Medical center and Hermann Park.
Just saying.
Just saying.

Did u walk through the bird area next to the tigers??... best area of he whole zoo... besides the exit

Yep agree 100%
Instead we’re going to pay 100 million dollars to upgrade the existing zoo & also going to spend 50 million dollars revamping the park near it as an apology to racebaiters for considering moving the zoo to the fairgrounds.
Used to be great, could’ve been great if it moved, hopefully will be great at some point in time.

its racist to move it out of the slums and high crime war zone
they wont allow it to be moved because its racist to suggest considering such a smart business decision

Wouldn’t it be nice if the people in North BR would simply maintain a nice community so no one would ever even want to move the zoo?

Honestly, most zoos are in really shitty parts of town and I just don't understand it. smart move would be to buy some property outside of town in the direction that the town is growing and plant the zoo there. That way, in 50 years, it would still be in a decent area.

I mean, that’s what they did when they built the zoo, however, that area quickly took a turn and went the other way.

We need a study to see if relocation is feasible...
