So if they do decide to make a streetcar line, it would cost what, $40 billion to make it out to downtown, and maybe 1500 people a day will use it? They'd have to shut down a lane on the southbound side of Nicholson for 7 years while it is being built? It's obviously not feasible, so what's the reason for the study?

$40 billion? Maybe if it was going to the moon.

Is this 100% going to happen? Just a horrendous idea if you ask me.
Yes, the project just started, and no, it will not be horrendous. Most of the traffic on government is caused by turning vehicles slowing down traffic. Getting those vehicles into their own lane worked really well when they tried it in their trial weekend. It will also add sidewalks, bike lanes, and much needed street parking. Those that want to speed should be using north blvd or Florida anyways.

The cost for this street car line is $100 million or more..... Great idea to shuffle the homeless from LSU to downtown! I thought the $40 Million dollar library was enough to keep them busy....
No way the City of BR could use that $100 million better?!?!?!?!? Bunch of spending fools!!!

Just a rough estimate since every government project in this state takes at least a year longer and much more money than it is supposed to
Once the thugs from North of campus start riding it, normal people will stop

Typical inner city street cars are stupid. Baton Rouge needs a light rail system that can move regardless of traffic lights or traffic jambs and has the flexibility of adding more cars on higher traffic days, not a useless street car system that barely goes jogging speed and has to sit in traffic just like cars and buses. The rail lines should be physically separated from the street by a curb strip or truncated domes.
Baton Rouge would be better off with a light rail system that isn't susceptible to traffic or traffic lights. They should shamelessly copy Houston and get cars that are just as comfortable and safe at high speeds as they are with low speeds. The cars are low enough to the ground where the transit stops won't have to be elevated beyond curb height.
If they spend $100 million and put street car lines in the vehicular lanes, then what the hell is the point of having rail at all? These trains should not be susceptible to Baton Rouge traffic or traffic lights
Copy Houston, Portland, Toronto....do not copy New Orleans or Memphis.

Why? Because people from Mall City could show up at the capital building at a moment's notice? It's not like downtown isn't right next to the Plank Road area and old mid city already. It's not like Old South Baton Rouge isn't right there. This would be great for Cortana AND great for Downtown as more of the wealthy people from Old Goodwood and Capital Heights could go downtown without having to worry about parking or designated drivers.
Who it sucks for is the BRPD's DUI division.
If the cars are run well, it would be great for state employees living in the Garden District, Old Goodwood, Mid City, and Capital Heights to commute without having to drive in endless traffic clusterf&%ks.

spend money to clean downtown up and then pour money into a system to bring poor people back into downtown
