Whether it's Sid Gautreaux or his successor, eventually a sheriff election will revolve around the rest of the parish's sour grapes for subsidizing police protection in a city the size of Baton Rouge that doesn't want to pay for its own police. Baker, Zachary, and Baton Rouge all pay for their own police departments and Central has had to steadily grow their own over the last ten years. Nobody is going to just give a city of 86,000+ (and probably the richest per capita in the parish) a pass on having subsidized police coverage.
Its odd that they have a city court budgeted, but no police force for it.
EBR tickets go to District court.

If this were anywhere but the OT I'd think this was a plant by an opponent of the StG proposal. But judging by the number of likes you got, I guess not.

You are trying to make an argument where there is nothing to argue about. We could play what ifs all day.
The fact is citizens in SG are currently being served by the sheriff. We pay taxes for these services right now. It's a parish wide tax.
If SG does or doesn't become a city the police protection will not change. If people feel good about the current service, they should not expect a change if a city is formed.
But organizers understand SGeans might want better coverage than they have now and are allocating funds in the budget to provide better services.
And who know who the next sheriff will be. Hopefully it will be someone who upholds the constitution and enforces the law. If it's not then what difference would it make if SG is s city or not?

If true, then why so much fighting to prevent this from coming to a vote? Why not let the vote happen?

So I haven't been in Baton Rouge long enough to know much about the St. George on going issue. Can someone give me the TLDR version of why people want st. George and also why people are saying its a bad idea?

Some people in unincorporated East Baton Rouge want to set up their own city and Independent School District because they feel they are poorly served today.
Some others think it's a bad idea because it's racist to want to have more control over your community, tax dollars, and schools.

Ok... But that's a parish-wide library system. So will St. George residents not be allowed to use the libraries in EBR parish?
Some of those libraries will even be in St. George. So who's paying for them? Who's using them?
I'm sure there are tons of stats they can and will use but this library thing could have used some more thought.

The Library does offer some kick arse services online that I assume are not free for the library to offer. With a library card you have access to tons of current ebooks, streaming music, movies, games, curent newspapers, archived newspapers, and tons more. Yes "muh tax dollas" pay for all that. So take advantage of it. Read some "Gahdan Wood" or "Vickas" and learn something.

I don't disagree, it's apples and oranges.
Perhaps they were trying to illustrate that over 460 people work in the Library System sync that SG won't have to hire near that many employees, but it really doesn't fit.
