I don’t think it will work

not even close.

Despite the woes of Detroit they are still a large employer with diverse economy. They also don't have a completely broken property insurance market.

Detroit's major new skyscraper is the Hudson's Detroit, a landmark project featuring a 49-story residential/hotel tower and a connected 12-story office/retail building, signifying revitalization with tenants like GM and luxury amenities, aiming to redefine the skyline with its 2027 opening for the tower.

quote:

Baton Rouge hasn't seen a new true "skyscraper" (very tall building) built in decades, with the most recent significant tall building being Jacobs Plaza, completed in 1989, but the skyline's tallest are One American Place (1974) and Mid-City Tower (1966)

quote:

New Orleans hasn't had a truly "last" skyscraper built in recent decades, but major construction slowed after the 1980s oil boom; the iconic, but troubled, Plaza Tower was completed in 1969, while the current tallest, the Hancock Whitney Center, was finished in 1972, with the city's significant high-rise era peaking in the late 70s/early 80s before the industry shifted, leaving many older towers like Plaza Tower vacant.

No. Detroit made a huge comeback. The downtown area is incredibly nice now. What they’ve done in the last 10 years is a miracle.

There are still large parts of the city that are shite holes tho.

At least he's looking for ideas, I guess. Baton Rouge's 3 main problems are crime, terrible public schools, and abysmal traffic. All 3 are not quick fixes.

Anyone remember the last great "city-tour" decades ago?

Austin.

Austin, Texas.

Which one would you rather emulate?

I remember in the early 2000’s the mayor of Baton Rouge doing studies comparing Austin to Baton Rouge. Not a single thing was implemented or changed after that
