There are two in the Houston metroplex, Katy and the Woodlands area. What if you put one between B.R. and N.O. Demograph me some population figures on these two cities, not to mention D. Springs and Hammond and Laffy are only an hour away. I drive an hour to play golf, would do the same for top golf.

We have a guy posting in this thread that worked on a proposal and they determined it isn't sustainable. Just because you and your buddies, and me, would likely go doesn't mean it would make money. If someone thought it would make money, it would be under construction.
Which doesn't mean it would create a return on investment.

I went recently for the first time. I don't think you can do a "small version" of it. I mean I guess you can cut back on the booths, but there's a ton they have to dump into making those targets, ball systems, etc.. I think it has to work on a decently large scale.
It also does get expensive. I would say a group of four only lightly drinking spent $200+ for a 2 hour trip. It's a lot like bowling to me. By the end, I don't really care anymore and am just hitting the balls to finish out my turn. If it fizzles out to a million people in the Houston area, there are literally about 5 million other people to introduce to it. If the 250k people in Baton Rouge get tired of it, it turns into the Cortana Mall.

I don't really see people consistently driving an hour from NO to play for 1-2 hours. Playing a round of golf is different because it takes 4-5 hours and it's during the day. TG seems like a fun thing to do at night with a group of people, have some food and drinks and then go out or do something else after. I wish there was one but don't see it happening

Do you understand what operating costs are? Have you been to a top golf?
You need a steady influx of people, day in and day out, for this to be viable.
You can't shrink top golf. If you did, it would be unsustainable.
Louisiana can not sustain that place, especially Baton Rouge or the North SHore. Even New Orleans would have trouble keeping that business model afloat.

So you think people will drive an hour away to go play top golf on a Tuesday at 1 pm? You really think you can keep that place half full every day of the week, then pack it out every weekend for 5+ years?
Wanting something and having something turning a profit are 2 different things.

I've been thinking this since I went to the one in Houston. There's so much money to be made, but from what I've read they are intentionally limiting how many locations they open to preserve their brand I guess. A location that's a little more in the center of Baton Rouge and New Orleans might be better though.

That's just Houston city limits. There are more people in metro Houston than in Louisiana

I seriously doubt that any top golf is real busy at 1pm. Now maybe between 11am and 1pm might be busy because of lunch, but before and after probably not, at least until 5/6pm. Went to the one in the Woodlands last year on a Friday night, and it was packed. But not shoulder to shoulder. Lots of booths open as I walked through the whole thing. And there was a line to the counter. I believe, since this was a new location, they didn't have the employees to fully man each floor. Ran into our food server the next morning, didn't hit any balls, at our hotel and she said she was there from the location in Austin. She was there to train personnel in Houston.

Just some food for thought.
There were more golf courses closing around the country over the last 5 years than have opened in 15 maybe.
While i think Top Golf is a great idea, it is just impractical here. You have to base the success on repetitive business. How many people are willing to religiously drop $100+ every other week to sustain it. One the novelty wears off, where is the business coming from? You have a decent amount of golfers here locally but not enough to even sustain public courses in any manner.
I likened it to the Bowling Alley craze of the 70-80's. They becamse outdated and boring to a lot of people. WIthout a super dense population (and ones with hihg income levels at that), the place simply isn't sustainable.
I tried to pitch this in two different development meetings i worked in. Both loved the idea but when they did their demographics, it was just not worth it to them. Most of your customer base, you are banking on driving in from over an hour away possibly.

It does. Highland Road is one of the best courses in the South.

This is how I see a Top Golf being sustainable. I think tapping into the New Orleans Convention market is the only chance Top Golf has in Louisiana.
