re: Baton Rouge long term outlook

If your intent is to leave BR after some kind of catalyst (I.e. kids finish High School) you are going to lose financial ground every single day that you wait.
Baton Rouge home values underperform most desirable areas so each year the affordability becomes harder.
The longer you aren't in the new location to get integrated (both work and socially) the harder it will be.
If you do have the ability to leave Baton Rouge, do it yesterday.

Not for work in industrial facilities.
How many operator jobs are there in Baton Rouge (I don't mean the entire stretch of river between BTR and MSY)? It's nice for a slice of workers (like with doctors and lawyers,) but there were 1,700 LSU graduates in Fall of 2025. What is their potential to make $100k in the area? You have a sprinkling of engineers, sure. But there's a lot of administrative assistants and servers at Chilis in that group if they want to stay in the area.

I thought you were joking about the town name Stagecoach until I remembered there is a Cut and Shoot, Texas not far from there. Texas has some unique town names. LOL

Get out of there people, and do it now. Abandon ship before you can’t

Hammond is half black and is fricking Mayberry compared to the shithole BR has become

Probably going to become another Jackson, MS over the next few decades.
There comes s tipping point where fleeing is by far the smartest option so everyone does that.

Idgaf that the food tastes better here
I know this is a running joke on here and folks in LA are protective of their food. But I’m sure these people that have moved to other areas in the Southeast haven’t lost their ability to cook, and the spices they use can be found in any decent grocery store. Get some crawfish shipped, and you can have yourself a nice boil in Texas, Arkansas, or Mississippi.

We have a Best Stop in Katy. People already import a thousand pounds of crawfish a week where you can buy the sacks out of industrial parks, etc. H-E-B has seven different brands of cajun sausage (and boudin) that are not house brands. They even stock La Boucherie Turducken.
But you'll never convince them.

Nah, I? an architect and pay in BR is awful. I've doubled my salary since leaving 3 years ago.

I didn't say Fulshear. That's where most of Sugarland is going.

What I can't stand about people like you is the smug denial of reality.
Yeah it takes very little effort to look up the violent crime rates of the city. Rates that are near top of the nation year after year. That’s sad and scary
People like that poster are part of the problem and don’t realize it

Truth is, most areas are known for what locals call “the best food”. South Louisiana food is good and stands out as unique to outsiders, but there are unique local flavors in other cities and regions too. It’s like the locals everywhere I have lived all say “you know what they say about the weather in such in such, if you don’t like it just wait a few minutes”.
On the downside, when I moved to BR it was cool having a lot of cajun food choices but it quickly became tiring when we realized there were hardly any other options. I longed for the common southern cuisine I grew up with. For example, if you want roast beef and gravy or pot roast in BR, you are limited to going to the Cracker Barrel. Don’t get me wrong, the BR food is good but it is like having every restaurant in town an Italian restaurant or only having Tex Mex restaurants. I wouldn’t let the “best food” belief trap me into living anywhere I wasn’t happy.

Your property values will never be higher.
Start applying for jobs outside of the Baton Rouge area.
Texas is calling. Answer. Lower overall tax rate than Louisiana. You will be paid more and you will get to keep more of what you earned.
Florida might be better, but consider both.

Be careful when you do, OP. The tax rate can be 1/3 lower less than a mile away. Suggest DFW; their amenities are better than Houston for kid's sports, etc. Just stay away from Frisco unless you need to buy curry in bulk at Sam's.

Lived in Ellick for 25 years. Moved back to BR in 2019. I was never the victim of crime the entire time I lived in Ellick, but I lived in Chuck Park on the West side of town. Like BR, most crime in Ellick stays in certain parts of town.
