irrational fear
I live in the same neighborhood where I work - and we’ve even had do take safety precautions at work because of weird shite going down
We’ve gotten the shot gun (for home defense) out 3 times in the last 9 months.
And I hate to fault BRPD - but they take their good old time answering a 911 call, a neighbor told me they took 22 minutes to get to my house when I called one night - at work I called bc we were having a situation - 45 minutes.
I’m proud of their response time yesterday at the mall but let’s find these thugs and put them in jail.

Absolute shite with intermittent total cluster frick shitty days. There is little hope. I cannot wait to get the hell out of this place, I will never look back and I have been a 30+ year resident. There are other areas too that are bad and are comparable and looked similar to the former city of Baton Rouge, want a glimpse to the near future look at Detroit, areas of Los Angeles and Haiti
The truth sucks at times, what has been allowed here and in other areas is an absolute travesty.

What a shame how this place has become my kid wants to go to LSU next year and I don’t want her to. I hate Ole Miss, but I’d rather go there.

Jackson, Ms. either I am reading this wrong or you are drunk? Hell, the damn sewer system is a worse than in India. Jackson, like Baton Rouge is gone. Perhaps if Sherman made a march to the sea again the areas would be cleaned up..

Oxford and the nearby areas are beautiful. Memphis is a no go but seems some changes there may be underway.

Leaving LA will be the best decision you'll make. No one in my family misses leaving LA. What a shithole

Memphis has some very nice suburbs

Well well, down vote the truth tellerss away, yes, put them in jail. So they can hone the street cred and be released before you can get your shotgun out of the closet.

BR had some hope about 10-15 years ago. Downtown had been turned around, crime had dropped, housing market was good for a city it’s size, etc.
It was a nice bounce back from the post-Katrina years.
So theoretically I guess it could improve again but man I just don’t see it unfortunately.

I’m not in a bunker today. I’m at Jazz Fest where would-be mass shooter had 200 rds ready for me. F him! And disproportionate fear.
What I can't stand about people like you is the smug denial of reality. No amount of evidence would convince you otherwise. You'd be "above it all" no matter what. If you got shot in the head today, your ghost would stand over your own corpse with a goofy smile and say "at least I wasn't afraid and ate a shrimp poboy for lunch."
You are the living embodiment of the "this is fine" meme.
You think it makes you come across as smart but you're actually stupid.

Don’t let sports rivalries cloud what you think is ultimately best for your child.

I’m 59, all my kids are grown and I live in MidCity BR. I’ve never been a victim of crime here, and go to bars and restaurants all the time without fear. I walk all over my neighborhood and bike to LSU for various sports. Crime is overblown. If you’re paranoid about it move somewhere else. Random shite can happen to anybody. It’s sad, but doesn’t mean BR is worse than anywhere else. Crazy people w guns are everywhere in this country.

As bad as BR seems to be, there sure is a ton of construction going on in the greater BR area. Where do those people come from?

I’ve lived here 40 years, never been robbed or shot at, and was a major BR defender in the past.
You are the crazy person if you think BR is the same as “anywhere else”

But I live 2 blocks from where I work and I’ve been followed 3 times!! I can’t even walk two blocks to work!!
A few months ago - kids were shooting at people driving by - it wasn’t in the news - but it happened
2 months ago - 8 gun shots on a Sunday afternoon
What is overblown?

but doesn’t mean BR is worse than anywhere else.
From Google AI:
“Baton Rouge is considered one of the more dangerous cities in the U.S., with crime rates frequently cited as 139% to 196% higher than the national average. The city, often ranked among the top 10 most dangerous nationally, has high rates of violent crime and property crime, with a 1 in 17 chance of becoming a victim.”
This is what I call the BR Delusion

It will never be any better, once you move you really wonder why it took you so long.
It’s amazing how much nicer and better other places are.
Best decision of my life was moving

There needs to be a well organized, grass roots campaign that isn't afraid to absolutely put these judges on blast, publicizing every single thing about them. Put their faces on billboards. TV, everywhere. If they've released virtually any offender that appears likely to offend again, make them famous. Do expose's on them - anything that you can somehow keep out of the realm of harassment or threats. If there's one thing at fault here, it's the judges. They are fricking up everything because the majority of them are complete worthless pieces of shite. MAKE THEM put people and keep people in jail.
Second off, there isn't enough police in BR. I can drive all over this town for miles and miles, and never see a single police car. We need more stop-and-frisk. We need more cops in places with large public spaces. And they need to be seen walking the beat. We need more cops that walk around, talk to people, say hello, ask how you're doing, etc. Shady looking people need more attention. I know there's civil liberties issues that you cannot violate, but just being around is a huge deterrent. If there's a horde of teens walking around somewhere jawing at each other, get some cops around there.
There needs to be more EBRSO presence all over the parish, including BR city limits. If BRPD can't hire enough union cops, the city-parish needs to supplement it with more deputies.
Other than that, man... I don't know. When you see an area in decline, there's a pretty good chance that it can't rebound. I've told all my kids that I'd like to see them eventually leave this town once adulthood permits. The future here is pretty bleak.
This is my hometown, Memphis, and probably describes most urban cities in the SE. I didn’t return and prob won’t ever return. I enjoy visiting but the city is too far gone and what needs to happen will never happen because it would force far too many people to be honest about the problem
