My criteria is simple. If I can do it, it's not "art". I can make that with a little bit of effort.
Many times the stuff that sells is purely for money laundering purposes. Otherwise, if you are good at creating some BS story naïve people believe you can be a successful artist. Frankly, it's better to be a good marketer than artist.
