Baton Rouge General will begin offering COVID-19 antibody testing at two BRG Express Care locations beginning Wednesday. The tests aren't currently covered by insurance and cost $100 each.

You could also have peace of mind knowing that if you step out and get the virus, you have less than a 1-100 chance of dying of it. And it’s significantly less than that if you are young and relatively healthy. That gives me peace of mind as I’m about leave my house.

I was looking for a reason to improve my opinion of the insurance industry. I've always, always viewed them as underhanded parasites.
Hatred and disgust are a heavy burden, I am tired of carrying this cross. You can't be telling me things like this. You are reminding me of why I know they are dead weight on society.

These tests haven't been shown to be reliable yet. Could lead to a bunch of false "peace of minds."

Maybe
But our leaders and media are pushing us too far in the opposite direction

Your feelings about insurance companies are warranted but you can’t expect them to pay for a test and possibly infinite retests. Maybe after more of the population has exposed.

I'm considering getting tested because of an illness I had in mid-Feb.

Still pretty high odds if you think aout it. Odds of dying in a car accident are 1-12000 according to the NTSB.

I agree. Until the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values are known these tests are worthless.

$100 seems like a bargain

seems like a money grab...
if it was a useful assay, I think they'd be touting the specificity and sensitivity of it
also, negative results could potentially be harmful

That peace of mind means nothing for individuals who are actually a high risk for this and actually needs to stay quarantined. So a piece of mind is very helpful if you know it is safe to visit loved ones without risk of unknowingly infect them.

At this point with the currently available assays, I'd rather spend my $100 on this bad boy from Pottery Barn... that's 5 separate snack compartments.
