Not according to the Indonesian government. Doesn’t matter what American’s think is right or wrong. Cause they aren’t American.
And thats the important part.
It blows my mind when entitled Americans go to another country, break their laws and getting in trouble, claim ignorance to the law then think the law shouldn’t apply to them.

I am near manic about foreign travel to the point I have separate luggage for international travel. My domestic luggage gets used so often things like a single unstamped generic OTC analgesic or heartburn pill could be hiding somewhere in a pocket and cause the pain and heartburn it was meant to prevent. It is their country and their rules and I don't expect favors.
I do find it interesting how split the OT was last year about this time with the Turks and Caicos ammo issue. The timbre of the discussion was much different.

I think it’s reasonable to criticize this guy and leave him in the clank for a bit…
But ultimately i would expect the United States to throw its weight around before it got too far. That said, it’s probably a non-issue as Indonesia is not going to try and execute a US citizen over some gummies.
On the T&C thing, my perspective was they made a mistake, we respect other country’s laws, but we should eventually intervene because we can.
They can say no, as Indonesia can, and deal with the consequences. But they won’t.

Firing squad for marijuana doesn’t seem very fair though does it? Not really “so be it!”
What a completely asinine statement.
This board is amazing lol

This board has shown time and time again it wants something akin to Sharia Law.

If their laws call for the firing squad for him then so be it

Calling this drug trafficking is a stretch.
That country gets to decide what they consider to be drug trafficking. Clearly, they believe mail order pot deliveries to be drug trafficking.

Indonesians are seriously some of the stupidest people on the planet.

While I can find that law draconian
I’d bet Indonesia doesn’t have a very big drug problem with a firing squad in play

How many heroin overdose deaths did we see back when first offense distribution was mandatory 99 years at Angola?
How many of those deaths are we seeing in recent years since that laws was removed?
Maybe brutal drug laws have some value.

Their country. Their laws.
When I was over there a ferry driver was executed for smuggling cigarettes in.

The latest data I could find is this report from 2017. You can't prove a negative, so it's impossible to say draconian laws have had no effect, but clearly drug abuse is a continuing problem in Indonesia, firing squads notwithstanding.

The most recent statistical data available to the National Narcotics Board is its National Survey of Narcotics Abuse that was published in 2012. The survey indicated up to an estimated 4.7 million drug users in Indonesia. Research indicated that 70 percent of users were workers, while students made up 22 percent of users. The most widely used narcotics were cannabis, methamphetamine, and ecstasy. The overall incidence of drug use appeared to rise in 2014 according to anecdotal information, and the National Narcotics Board organized 638 outreach events including 369 community focus group discussions, as well as radio and television awareness programs and other events for schools, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and government offices in an effort to reduce demand.

Some of these drugs are so powerful that a grain of sand could kill a whole city."

Of course it is. But other countries are free to have any set of laws they want. If you don't like and don't want to follow their laws you don't go The arrogance of some American's thinking they can just do whatever they want in other countries is crazy. They learn real quick America isn't nearly as bad as they think it is
Yea I agree to a point - but there is also a third, higher level of reasoning - that it truly IS a gross over reaction to execute someone for such an act.
There is a reason why the United States is such a great place to live, and our general superior reasoning skills is part of this.

I dont understand this argument. Follow the damn law of the country you are in. Why do people need drugs so bad? Grow up and deal with real life.

Indonesia can do what it wants, but we should tell them to frick themselves when they have their hands out for the $200 million in aid they get from us every year.
Might be a valid point, but has no relevancy to the topic.

People use cannabis the way people use alcohol. Doesn't mean they aren't dealing with "real life". Quite a few other drugs/types of drugs are used to "deal with real life", and just about all of them are legal.

Hey stupid, the “real life” is doing drugs in Indonesia.
