I can understand the dead ball but I don't understand why the base runner was called out. Why would anyone be out?

There's nothing to agree or disagree with. There's a rule for this situation and in this case the umps made the correct call.

The rule doesn't call for the base runner to be out. Should've just moved up to second base.

That was my big question. The dead ball call was actually correct based on the umpire's position on the field. The rest. Nah.

You make the call.

Bases loaded.
No out
Batter hits a ball to first.
First baseman steps on first and throws the ball to home.
Catcher did catch the ball and step on the plate before the runner crossed but did not tag the runner

Is the runner going from 3rd to home safe or out?

Scenario 2

Runner on 1st
2 balls, no strike count.
Batter swings at a pitch and tips it.
Catcher fields it cleanly
Runner that was on first was going to 2nd on a steal,
coach on 1st hears the foul tip and calls the runner back.
Catcher throws to first and runner is tagged before going back to first.

Is that runner safe or out?

As I'm sure had been stated already, I don't see how the ball isn't considered live.

No one is worrying. "You make the call" used to be part of MLB programming back in the day.

It's also been stated correctly that dead ball was correct. They got that right.

Bc as I understand it, normal baseball rule is umpire interference results in a dead ball. Which is fine, it's the same idea as a ground rule double when the ball is stuck in the ivy, its a dead ball. But there's no logic to calling out the runner. That's the rub.

Scenario one..... Ump called the dude out at home. Asked for an appeal and they told him no.

Scenario 2, that's what they called.

I've seen it happen in a high school game with a runner only on 3B. The batted ball hit the ump and the batter was awarded first base, but the runner at 3B had to remain and ended up not scoring the winning run.

I used to just hit it over everyone's head and the fence and never had to worry about this. I suppose it could have happened to someone on my team though

Nobody got the ball in play when I was on the mound

If we're talking MLB rules, and the ump is positioned in the infield then yeah...dead ball with batter taking first and runners advancing one base if forced to...but your league could have completely different rules

This is correct. All the people saying the ball is played live are wrong.

Its 13U, you are not working with professional umps. Hopefully you didn't become one of those parents.

Ump is part of the field of play. Part of the game. If it happens to hit him, then live ball.

That's not true. The rule is its a live ball if the ump is behind the bag and a dead ball if he's on the infield side of the bag. I'm not sure how they came up with the lead runner being out though.
