you're the first one so far

Wait so you come on my topic thread to add nothing of value to the discussion other than to point out that this is a recycled topic? Has it ever occurred to you that some individuals haven't seen this topic on OT or even heard this story before? fricking a-hole. Move along.

It would be pretty funny if he ends up going broke.

given the history of athletes who make the big bucks for a few years and piss it all away the odds aren't in his favor

This is the first I heard of this story. Does his kid not go to school or maybe play for a little league team himself?

Crackhead Hamilton has gotten a lot of $ for about 1.5 decent seasons, hell his former employer gladly paid him 80mil just to go away

Was the kid mentally handicap? And why was he not in school? I'm sorry but I completely side with the team on this one. At some point you need to let that kid do his own thing, and even if all he wants to do is be with his dad at the ballpark, you need to force him to do something else. That's not healthy

Guy makes bad (to most people) decision based on unreasonable expectations and demands.
Guy has already earned over $70M and has other priorities than baseball.
Guy will be just fine.

I don't think anyone is saying the team is out of line. But he has every right to make the decision he did as a player. He had enough money and liked being around family. My dad coached high school baseball. I grew up the same way, hanging around dugout. Older players teaching me things (bunting, pitching, etc.) on there free time and I ran errands and stuff. I don't think it's crazy. I know I loved it as a kid.

I doubt someone who's willing to turn down that money and have such a viewpoint on being there for his kids is the one who's blowing his money on bullshite. He may be, but I doubt it.

for his sake, hopefully that's right, sometimes though, decisions like that are made because the athlete really has no concept of what that kind of money really is, and the inflated ego that usually accompanies tells them that "hell, I can make that doing just about anything"

He didn't put his family first.

If I quit my job because my boss wants me to scale back on how often I bring my kid to work does that make me a hero? No it makes me a prima donna.
