Never liked the giant wing or the extended front clip of the Super Bird. They just look ridiculous on a car that was already large by all accounts, the Challenger/Barracuda.

I'd much rather have a Cuda, which is the same thing underneath. Or a non-vinyl top Challenger

The best part was the bidding action. Car was quickly going up through the hundreds between two guys, one who just bought the previous car for over 500k. Guy bids a million and the other goes 1.1. Old man just said 1.5 and ended it with the knockout punch.

Pretty cool car auction moment

My stepdad was a salesman at a Plymouth dealership in the 60’s(John T. Fisher Motors in Memphis). He drove one of those things home a few times as a demonstrator. Cool car.

He and I liked the Barracuda better though.

It looks like a kit car with all that ridiculous garbage added to the front and rear. I can appreciate a classic but that thing is ugly.

It was built for NASCAR. Plymouth and Dodge had to sell a set number of vehicles in order for it to qualify as a stock car, iirc.

I don’t understand how people say this is an ugly car. Its 50 years old.

Is not an attractive car, function over form without a doubt. These cars were not popular when introduced, and were built solely for NASCAR. They sat on the lot, they couldn't give them away back in the day.

Hard no from me, but to each his own.

I was never a fan of the styling for a street car. But, 1.65? Somebody really wanted that car.
I had read the nose piece was fabricated and painted at another facility away from the plant. It was hit or miss on the fit gaps and the paint was not always a true match to the rest of the body color.

It's really not and I'm a huge muscle car fan. But they're pretty rare so the price goes through the roof. Give me a '71 Plymouth Cuda over this thing any day (based on styling alone).

Yeah, I didn't understand the price here. A couple of years ago I got interested in the RoadRunner Car and did some research on how many still existed. You could find some very nice looking models for under 100 K just a couple of years ago. How is this one so much?

From Barrett-Jackson: “Lot #1400 - This "survivor" factory HEMI Superbird has just over 6,000 original miles and is perhaps the lowest-mile and finest remaining example of an original Superbird in existence. With a professional repaint to exact factory standards and a remarkably well-preserved original body with all-original Fender Tags, immaculate undercarriage, engine compartment and interior, this Superbird is second to none. Equipped with a complete matching-numbers original drivetrain - the 426/425hp HEMI V8 engine with two 4-barrel carburetors…”

That thing is beautiful. And could do over 200 off the showroom floor.

Not even close for the homologation cars. Maybe 160 on the flat with a tailwind.

One of the things noticed is the 3 spd 727 torqueflight auto transmission. I wouldn't think it was a popular choice but if only few were originally installed, a rare combo such as this could actually add to its value.

You're correct, my mistake. The Daytona could from what I've read.

Also built to lure Richard Petty back to Mopar, supposedly.
