re: Barber increases prices due to "inflation." Do you take the difference out of the tip?

Why would you tip a barber who sets their own prices?
This is actually the right question to be asking. They set their own price. That's what they feel they are worth.

Your barber is fully aware.

The price of gas and food goes down as inflation slows along with the price of materials to do business like the supplies a barber or anyone else in the service industry would use. When this happens, the price for their services should follow accordingly, but it never does.
They are also hesitant to raise prices because it's pretty well known service industries take the biggest hits when they raise prices, so they usually don't increase them unless absolutely necessary.
We are about to see an insane market correction on restaurants. It's not really a high margin business to begin with, and most people I know are cooking at home due to increased cost with a massively decreased experience.

frick your economics, finance, or business education and your attempt to lecture me.
Answer the original question honestly: If you already tip your barber $5 or $10 when they already charge a base rate of $25 but then the next time you go in, they tell you that their base rate for the service has gone up to $30, do you just happily continue adding that $5 or $10 tip on top of the now more expensive service? Or does it just slightly piss you off?
Has nothing to do with the money. I have the means to have him cut my hair every damn day and he provides good service. It's the whole concept behind it.

So why were yoy tipping him in the first place?
Has that reason changed because he charges more?

We have spent like drunken sailers, both as a collective individual group and as a country, and now it's coming home to roost.
The truly insane part is people are dealing with this shite and still voting for more spending.

Your issue is with Fred.
Posted on 6/1/23 at 11:38 am to fightin tigers
Because he's in the service industry and he does a good job.
Posted on 6/1/23 at 11:39 am to PropofolPapi
If he charges $15 and you give him $20, but now charges you $17 you can still give him $20.
Posted on 6/1/23 at 11:39 am to PropofolPapi
You still haven't answered when the last time that he had a price increase. If I'd been paying the same thing the last few years, I wouldn't blink an eye at a $5 increase.

I remember the days of:
“Shave and a haircut…2 bits.”

So that hasn't changed.
Not sure what your question is.

From the very first post: "Would you continue to add the tip on top of this more expensive base price or just not tip anymore?"
Just a yes or no answer is great.

Buy a set of clippers and do it yourself. I haven't paid for a haircut in 20 years. frick that.
If you have some big lumberjack beard that requires salon care, shave it off.
I have more money saving tips if you need them.

You aren't tipping the guy based on the price though.
So not sure why you even have that correlation.
So no. Based on your reasoning there is no need to stop tipping.
I also wouldn't stop tipping if Russia joined the UN. They have the same correlation in your eyes.

Damn you’re salty.
I’d understand his costs have gone up. I’d probably continue to tip him if I enjoy the cut and the experience..
What I wouldn’t do is write a Dear Facebook message and try and rally support so I feel better about being upset. .

crying "inflation" as their reasoning and then never decreasing their prices when "inflation" is over.
The frick?

It's difficult to find someone who actually knows what they are doing and is an actual licensed barber. I have no problem paying good money and and good tip to someone who is an excellent barber.

I think it's a requirement for an attorney to pay $100 for a haircut. It's part of the douchebag mentality. Your opinion is irrelevant in this thread. Go chase an ambulance.
