re: Bar Rescue...Anyone ever experience a bar that went through this?

My favorite bar was the one in the middle of a business park that was pirate themed and the waiter came up to the undercover people who sat themselves and said “that’s fine just sit wherever the frick you like” before taking their orders
When they changed away from the pirate theme, the owner (who was losing $80,000 a month) cried and said the place lost its soul. They went back to being pirate themed a month after the show and then promptly closed down

It’s insane the amount of debt some of these places are in.
But when you’re a pirate themed bar in the middle of a business park and have waiters who talk shite to guests, i guess it shouldn’t be too shocking

Remember when that pizza place on Jefferson had the restaurant people come in and show them a better way?
the owner simply ignored everything they suggested. closed not long after that.

The shows implementation does not seem sustainable to me. I’ve heard of a couple in Houston that eventually closed shortly after or just went back to trash.
Hard to tell whether that’s a fail for his team or just bad management reverting back to their baseline.
It’s a really tough industry and if the ownership, business model and location aren’t all aligned it’s probably just a matter of time.

TJ Quills: Season 3, Episode 3 (February 2013)
That same season just a week or so before they did a place called Turtle Bay in NOLA too. I discovered that show when that season premiered and remember the first 4 or 5 episodes were NOLA and Austin and wondered if they only did places in those two cities.
ETA: I just went to look at a list of places they've done. They aired 3 episodes in a row in Louisiana during Season 5 (2016/2017). I'm wondering how many of yall here got to see the "before and after" IRL and if so, was it good?
Speakeasy Bar and Grill- Kenner, LA
Big Mike's Sports Bar and Grill- Denham Springs, LA.
Desi Romano's Sports Bar and Grill- Chalmette, LA

Just curious on the fake scale where would it rank? Seems REAL scripted everytime
If you want to go down a fun rabbit hole, google how many of the “rescued” bars are still in operation as presented.

Someone had real time info on TJ Quills in NOLA when it came on, someone will probably post it in this thread. It sounds like they actually do a decent enough job getting bars updated/new items, but the drama and stuff is relatively fake.

Taffer made the waiter take his eye patch off, dude's eye was legitimately fricked up, Taffer told him to put it back on.

i suspect it started out fairly realistic, but quickly devolved into mostly scripted nonsense.
Yep. He started as an actual successful private bar consultant and later pitched the idea to make a reality show.
If you start at season 1 episode 1 you can tell it's more realistic. However, his formula is simple, effective and repeatable so in a sense it did become scripted to be more outrageous as far as bad bartenders, bad food etc.
That said, I like the show and have seen every episode. I binge watched it a few years ago and still keep up. New episodes premier on Sunday nights on the Paramount channel. If you have YoutubeTV you can browse every episode of every season.

Living in Waco, you become extremely jaded with any reality type show based on my personal knowledge of Fixer Upper
You must not enjoy shiplap
From what I have deduced from this thread is that "Bar Rescue" is fake but I wish it real so they could've saved my local bar (Tapped) from dying

I know a guy whose bar was on this show.
He said it was mostly fake.
Once he got out of the hole and the bar started making a little money, he sold it.

They did one in a small town in Florida that was an old arcade type bar, after about 6 months they changed the name back to the original and it's not running the best

quote:I seem to recall that the owners also changed the theming not long after it was redone. They seemed like they were in over their heads.
I knew the people that owned the bar in Kenner (Speakeasy) that they did. There was a script involved. They had the wife twerking on "random patrons", manufactured a lot of drama within the staff, made them do something different with the food in the kitchen so they could chastise them for it... They also knew when they were coming to do the surprise inspection so the wife could look like the party girl always cutting up at the bar, and the husband could look like a lazy drunk.
The stress test was also intentionally set-up to fail.
Even after they did everything, they still had to sell the bar because the issue was the location. They went through all of the trouble to turn it into a "New Orleans themed" bar in what the network referred to as an above average income area; but did not take into consideration that the neighborhood was surrounded by lower priced apartments, and their customer base was significantly changing to a more Hispanic crowd.

Didn't the now (thankfully) closed Boil and Roux go through one of these?

Tj’s went with the new bar theme for like 6 months then went straight back to being Tj’s

I’ve made a number of posts regarding FU. Cliffnotes
1. They both are the most unreligious couple on the planet
2. He owed basically all of the contractors in central Texas big money. Once he got popular he told everyone to go frick themselves
3. Show wise they have all the tasks ready when he arrives with ALL the real contractors waiting. They spray fake sweat on him and he spends 15 minutes there and leaves
4. Most of their work fails inspection
And no, I wasn’t one of the ones he screwed. She actually is very talented. We would always go to her original shop
