Lots of correct answers so far. Yes, parking farther out in lot where there is fewer cars and greater chance to create space around your vehicle is best. And if you can pull all the way thru a spot then you definitely do that. Backing up is the most dangerous thing you do in a vehicle. But if you can’t pull thru park then backing in first is safer than backing out later. When you first pull into a parking lot you have a current up to date picture of where everything is. You pick a spot between smaller vehicles and back in. If you pull into first then once you come back to vehicle later everything has changed now maybe instead of smaller vehicles, that have left and larger ones have pulled in which decrease your visibility backing out. If you back in first you don’t have that problem.

You will have a hard time convincing the people that are convinced they are correct. My teenaged daughter says I'm being "extra" by backing in. If I can park without backing up that's what I'm doing. If I can't, I'd rather back in now when I can see everything around me.

Change my mind
It's unnecessary and cultish. 9 out of 10 times it takes WAY longer to wait for some a-hole that HAS to show everyone he can back in.

Pre-cams, the talking point about it being safer to pull out headfirst might have had some truth, but it's literally irrelevant now. You can see all you need to see on the screen, and backing out into a large area that doesn't require very much precision is MUCH easier/quicker than backing into a sliver of space that has little margin for error.

I also don't agree that pulling through is better/safer. This is mostly because people looking to pull into a spot are surprised to see a car coming all the way through from the wrong side.

Disagree. We have to wait for you to back in when you could just quickly pull In.

Waiting for you to back out is a longer wait, and also causes more accidents.

Backing in is required at many plants and factories for safety reasons, which are listed above.

Only if you can manage to get your F250 into the spot by at least the second try.

Nah. Backing out is faster than backing in.

False. The pull-through is the best way.

I prefer the pull-out method.

Tulsa police busted a gay meetup location just south of Tulsa about 10 years ago.
The way the gay dudes all identified each other - They backed their cars into the parking spots.

It impedes the flow of traffic whilst you back in.

I don’t care how a person parks - as long as they are within the lines I’m all good.

I’ve had company vehicles since 2008 and my employer could care less

In a parking garage, it gets in the way and slows people down.

I always thought the pullout method was always best to not get the side chick pregnant."

I will say this. I will back in if it’s at an event where everyone will be leaving at the same time. It’s hard to back up into heavy traffic.

Nah. Backing in is a precision move, even if you are very adept at it. Backing out requires much less precision.

This is the only time I can endorse it - like if you find the perfect spot to leave a sporting event or concert quickly. Like you said, you can be much more aggressive forcing yourself into the flow if you are going grill first.

If you can do it quickly. I hate people that take forever to park.
Parking is easy if you can't do it quickly practice more.

This is the answer. I like to park far away. Not that my car is nice its that it's faster to park and walk than to fight for a close spot.
