As far as satirical news, when did the Babylon bee overtake the Onion?

A funny headline from the Bee is as follows: Baptist wearing masks in liquor stores

Back in the Onion’s heyday, that would be a humorous byline on the left of the front page. Is the Onion too insular in their East coast bubble to come up with the humor they had 15 years ago? Did the writing staff shift from the first generations of people outside the “bubble” of NYC or DC to people inside for the second generation of writers?

Satire, unless done by a lone individual who is committed solely to humor, eventually becomes more and more politicized - until it reaches a stage of punching bag snipes instead of comedy.

I think the Onion is in Chicago now.

It was funnier when it was a weekly.

Best onion ever

The only content from The Babylon Bee I even see is when my wife’s ultra conservative aunt shares it on Facebook and her and her fellow 65+ year old Facebook friends don’t understand that it’s satire. The back and forth comments are absolute gold. That, in itself, is far funnier than the actual articles I’ve seen

And I follow the The Onion on Facebook and they seem to pump out pretty good stuff for the most part. Not sure if its mostly articles from the archives or not though

The Chinese state press has been repeatedly fooled by the Onion. Which of course makes the whole thing 10x funnier.

Example

quote:

The merciless comedy website The Onion has declared North Korean leader Kim Jong Un the "sexiest man alive for 2012." And it appears China's People's Daily Online has taken the story seriously.

The Onion fell victim of the PC crowd and they're a bunch of pussies now. They have no edge anymore.

Babylon Bee has a conservative lean and they're not gaping pussies so they still have some funny stories.

This type of satire is at its best when it's filling a void nobody else wants to step into.

When the Onion was at its peak, other media was largely afraid to go to directly after middle-America, religion, our national sacred cows, etc. So the Onion did it and we all went "OMG holy shite"

Now, we're in an age where the most batshit crazy stuff is coming from the left, and MSM, Hollywood, and even the Onion and SNL are leaving all that source material on the table for political reasons. It's crazy. Transgenderism in itself is a goldmine.

So the Bee has the advantage of a) endless material and b) no competition.

The most hilarious of these Facebook outrage blow ups was when a bunch of FB old people were convinced to get worked up at the prospect that it was proposed to put non-presidents on US currency. A ton of people thought that was a new prospect proposed to honor minorities.

Agree. I used to look forward to Wednesday morning.

They got lazy when they changed their format and schedule.

Would civilians enjoy it or would the jokes be lost on us?

Bestbank - a lot of duffleblog would be fine for civilians

For instance:

LINK

All you need to know is Tiger King and that there’s a lot of college age men in military barracks to get the joke.

That's pure comedic gold right there.

Some other good stuff on the website.
