You're missing out. A good guide will tell you where the rape scene happened and then where the cameraman died right before you run the rapid they died on.

Yeah, I think you are in the minority in that though. Purchases are a status thing for many people.
I think it's more common for guys TBH. I know very few men who buy things solely to impress other guys. A guy may buy a Yeti because his neighbor got one, but 9/10 times even that guy is at home by himself that night putting ice in there to see how long it'll keep.
Meanwhile, I know women who just acquire and acquire, there isn't even any fleeting joy from the materialism.

most of my income comes from passive investments i made years ago, ~50k
i have mostly a worthless phd that i use for adjunt teaching. consulting. etc ~30k. the thought of a career makes me cringe, so dont see me ever doing that
and a few other things ~10-20k
i also dont have a family/wife so a lot of time to pursue different projects

Last year we did new Orleans twice, the beach, and San Francisco/Napa. This year were doing New Orleans, Austin, Boston, a lake house in South Carolina, and a longer trip to SF/Napa/Sonoma.
Cozumel 4 days
Grand Cayman 4 days
Central Europe Two Weeks (Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Munich)
England Week
San Diego (LaJolla) Week
New Years in DC, Annapolis (5 days)
SEC Baseball Tournament (4 days)
Perdido 1 week, another week and a couple of weekends
Destin 5 days
NOLA 4 or 5 weekends, odd overnights
I’m probably forgetting somewhere.
And I have grown youngins.
My point is your paradigms are not universal, choosing to have kids doesn’t preclude having a life not around the kids all of the time.
Especially once they’re adults.
I was home for kid stuff about 98% of the time.
Now I still see them plenty but they’ve got their own lives.

Is this where we brag about our travels?

For instance, the wife and I bought a house 5 years ago. And what do you know, some of our friends immediately purchased something. We added 2 bathrooms, and what do you know, they started an addition. They couldn't afford either activity. They were doing it just to keep up with us.
Haha I know about all of this
We frick around with certain family members just because we know they'll try and beat us to the punch. I could seriously get them to drop tens of thousands of dollars just by floating that we're going to buy something/move/etc.

not sure why this thread has shifted to that

There's a really big discrepancy in your dream scenario of a life....you post on an anonymous message board 10x/day for the last 10 years and that's being generous. That's pathetic

I don’t know why you posted your past vacations, but you should know that’s not in any way an impressive travel list.

What's interesting is that soccerfüt's post proves a point me and SFP were making earlier that he felt jealous of what TH03 posted so he had to make a thinly veiled attempt to one up under the guise that he was making a point about having kids.

You spelled "choking myself out while beating off in fancy Singapore Hotels" wrong.

This type of thing just baffles me. I mean I honestly do not understand it.

Except it totally screws up your view of the world. It's egocentrism on steroids.
Egocentrism is something most people grow out of by young adulthood.
Narcissism is actually perpetuated by low self esteem

I won't lie and say I don't care about "winning" (although I never really signed up for the game here). But as I've told my wife, we win by not really competing with them or caring about whatever they're chasing. They'll never be able to copy that.
