Available testing outpacing people with Covid symptoms

Yesterday, New Orleans had available testing left over and no line. This morning, a few sites have testing with no lines. This seems to match the 30 day curve apex we’ve seen in Other countries. Could be light at end of tunnel.

I like the positivity. Right now I’m enjoying the curves at my home office

Send them to north la. Still hard to get tested unless you know somebody in health field.

Just went this morning to UNO. Line wasn’t long at all. At 9:15 then maybe had 20-25 cars in line. Got there around and was finished by 9.

Some people have symptoms but do not have cars; some people have symptoms but are afraid of the test or testing site workers. And some people are waiting to see if their symptoms are more than allergies and sore throats and other things they would usually ignore.

Is this a Chinese BOT account designed to stir negative propaganda?

NEw positive numbers way down today, and yesterday was not too high either, is the curve flattening or just odd data points?

That’s great.
Does that change anything?
They aren’t treating anyone unless they need a ventilator. People that test positive are just told to stay home

What treatment do you give folks with a cough and fever if they do not require a ventilator? You tell them to go home and treat the symptoms and stay away from other folks just like the flu.

Sadly, we will not know for certain until well after the flattening begins.

It does seem suspicious.

If nobody takes test the curve automatically flattens! Genius!

I don't know why some people ITT are trying to find reasons for this to be flawed logic. Regardless of the reasoning, left over tests is a win.
I think human lives are more important than the economy, but if someone dies in their own home because they don't trust the system that is trying to save them, they have much bigger health problems than COVID-19.

You finished 15 minutes before you got there?

NY has probably been doing more tests than anywhere in the USA.
However, I live in NY and personally know around 20 people who very likely have this (all symptoms to varying degree of severity + confirmed contact with someone who tested positive).
This is not even to mention many more I know who were contacted and asked by health dept to self quarantine due to close exposure to someone who tested positive.
Of all those people, only 2 would show up positive in test numbers because they have been hospitalized.
The rest have been told by doctors/hospital etc to not come out to get tested but to isolate at home unless life or death emergency.
The test numbers may give some idea but when a huge percentage of people who are sick are being told --probably very wisely -- to NOT go out and get tested it just highlights the low percentage of cases we are testing.

A big problem now is NOT getting tested, but getting results in a timely manner. One of the larger reference labs responsible for running the tests is taking 7-9 days to result it. They had no system for prioritizing which patients tests should be run first. They ran out of chemicals needed to run the tests. They've basically been over run by Coronavirus. Timely testing should get better soon as other labs are coming into the field w/ rapid turn around tests. Even, then they're going to have criteria the patient needs to meet to be tested. Otherwise, the labs will be overwhelmed by the number of tests to be run. These labs were not set w/ sufficient personnel to run such a large number of tests. It'll be a while before the "drive into the Walmart parking lot and get tested" comes to fruition.
