Isn't there technology that we have that would auto turn a body cam on one you unhosteler a weapon? That should be the solution.

Plenty of important stuff happens well before anything is unholstered, they should be on before then.

On another note, what if the cam isn't working and the cop simply doesn't know it? Going to jail him anyway?

Sure the cop can still turn it on manually.

There should be a log in the device to prove failure of activation.

Yea it's foolish for that person to say that. Fired or suspended without pay is way more reasonable.

Also the cams could be programmed to automatically save footage for a fixed amount of time prior to the officer unholstering his weapon.

The officers’ body cameras were not turned on at the time and the squad camera did not capture the incident.

What the hell is the point of body cams if they aren't always running or aren't running when they should be?

I mean, I can see some situations where they should be turned off (going to bathroom), but there's got to be a way to force them on when they need to be.

Well yeah, they should definitely be able to turn them on prior, but the auto on after drawing a weapon should be a feature of the camera.

This officer is provided with a camera. Is he told to turn it on and wear it?

If so, he turned it off and shot a lady. Has he been arrested for destroying evidence like Tyrone would be when he swallows the little dope bag?

I know their job is hard and they deal with belligerent, ignorant, dickheads all day. An incident could happen at any time. Having the camera on is a protection to all that are doing the right thing.

Let's end the headlines that say once again, Officer Friendly had his fricking camera turned off.

This is very odd.

Well bullets can make amazing maneuvers mid flight. We learned that in the Kennedy shooting.

It kind of sounds like a mis fire. Maybe she was talking to the driver cop relaying information and the passenger cop was checking his weapon getting ready to exit the vehicle and start investigating when the pistol went off.

So, at best, it's manslaughter and gross negligence.

When a taillight goes out and the driver doesn't know, they can still be ticketed. LEOs say they should check the vehicle BEFORE getting in and driving.

Body camera not turned on in the event of a officer shooting which is not clear cut should be automatic prison time.

body cameras should automatically turn on when LEO gets a call or makes a report into dispatch that they're investigating something

kind of like how their car cameras automatically turn on when the lights are turned on

government, especially LEO, is the only group of people who don't have to know something is illegal

ignorance of the law is only a defense for government actors

Isn't that how tickets work for everything from brake lights to brake tags?

The BCA’s investigation is in its early stages.

I can already tell you the results. No evidence of wrongdoing and the cops did everything by the book. No one is at fault here except maybe the dead white woman.

it's been that way long before 2014

and we're talking about criminal liability for the LEO, not violations of a suspect's rights
