Also, tasers aren't 100% effective.
Plus he had already physically resisted arrest and had a weapon. All the while advancing on the officer and threatening harm. Not to mention telling his son to get the weapon he drop. He had bad intentions. Cop gave him ample opportunity to surrender, but he doubled down.

Aurora doesn’t have a great history but this one’s real tough on an officer… only so much he could do besides hopefully run out the clock til backup arrives

Video should make it an obvious loss for him, but if he knows it’s fairly likely to get certain judges and jury members he can get can push for a settlement regardless of the evidence.
