I honestly think this is a situation where “going woke” might actually mean going broke. Most people, either liberal or conservative, don’t go through with boycotts because they can’t actually give up the product

Conservatives with nfl, liberals with chik fil a, etc etc. But here? It’s easy as hell to grab another syrup brand and you miss nothing

I think a lot of people will stop buying it without even noticing. The only thing that stood them apart from other syrups was their branding and history.

The worst part is by and large, this is not a move that they had to do. People were not boycotting Aunt Jemima, no one was seriously calling or pushing for this rebrand. Most black people liked being able to buy a product with a black person on the cover. Hell, the reason I originally started buying Aunt Jemima to begin with was because I thought the logo looked alot like my Grandmother.

Popeyes is safe bc a white guy founded it and it shows how systemic racism has been overcome with having a black lady as spokesperson

Yep. This is the same as Dixie changing its name

Some things can afford to go woke or make ridiculous choices because their product stands out on its own. Aunt Jemima and Dixie arent that at all, their success was 100% based on brand only and recognition

See, this is why privileged white people need to speak for you. You were being oppressed and you didn't even know it.

The older logo looked a lot like the woman who worked for my Godmother and who, with her sister, taught me to 'cook' and who loved me as much as I loved her. She died suddenly and her death was the one that my parents had to use to explain death to me, way back when.

Yep. Sales will decline.

Not due to any boycott as I’m sure most people aren’t even aware of the name change.

They won’t recognize this brand and they’ll grab a brand they do recognize. Simple as that.

They have retired their Dirty/Cajun rice. The whole brand will soon follow.

It’s just absolutely insane from a business standpoint. Their branding was their entire claim to fame.

They just committed brand suicide. And “Pearl Milling Company”? Really? That’s the best they could come up with?

They could have just done absolutely nothing, and it would have blown over in a week or two. It’s just absolutely insane that they willingly destroyed their brand because of a few loudmouths on Twitter.

They changed the name to “Ben’s Original” and removed the logo of the black guy.

Constantly amazed when someone defends keeping a racial caricature as a corporate mascot. It’s not an “honor,” it’s an illustration of a woman slave (and later a woman servant). GMAFB

We recognize Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype

But how? Anytime I thought of Aunt Jemima it was positive. Just a homely black lady who liked cooking pancakes.
