There’s no way they lost 2 million dollars worth of computers. Even at full retail price, you’re talking about almost a couple thousand of them. BRCC doesn’t even have that many PC’s.

And nothing will be done about this - like the Council on Aging debacle

I read this as BREC at first, and I was highly intrigued by the thought of them losing $2MM in real estate.

Computers will actually be electronics. And electronics can be medical equipment.

80k on a pixus machine is easy to lose.

In that article the current head of BRCC said they didn’t realize there was a rule for paying fed money back within 45 days. LOL who is supposed to know if not the people hired to handle the money. Heads should roll, but they promise training for the staff by Jan 31

In addition, the school has nearly $2 million in property that cannot be located, mostly computers, according to the report.

State law mandates that all equipment valued over $1000 when purchased must be reported to the state property inventory system. If items were not added to that system then someone not directly involved in any theft could potentially go to jail

Happened to a guy I went to HS with. He was the campuswide technology coordinator at La Tech and got popped for slipshod inventory. He did a little time for it. He wasn't above helping himself to a laptop or two for personal use, but mostly it was just carelessness.

Doubtful. If they're conducting an inventory, then they were almost certainly capitalized.

You would think. But universities here don’t seem to depreciate items. Only the original purchase price is listed on the report. A 15 year old laptop with absolutely no value now would still be worth $5000 or whatever it cost in 2002 according to the report.

They cut their budget by about 10% so far. I’m certain this will curtail their can rattling at the Legislature since they can’t prove they’ll take care of what’s they do have. Meaning I see some more cuts in the future.

BRCC was a bone thrown to the Better Together crowd types years and years ago. Livingston Parish was angling for a Community College and the SJW crowd crowed that we needed to take care of other constituencies first.

Ironically, JBE worked with LP leaders to get a Community College here locally. They’ll build it in my backyard just about. Super stoked about it too.

thats easy, every year you buy a shitload of new computers then never take delivery, you then get cash kickback from the supplier when you sign a receipt showing they were delivered. maybe a 60/40 split i would imagine favoring the school cheats.

figure the average inflated cost of a computer at $1k each and what, maybe buying 400-500 computers each year, it wouldnt take long, maybe 4-5 years to add up to $2 million worth of missing money

So 5 administrators slipped a technology fee increase into the tuition, then turned around and used that money to give themselves raises. I bet someone's mistress was hired as a secretary.

Legislative auditor intentionally omits known facts from their findings to make them sound sexier than they really are. LA wants you to imagine the CFO is embezzling cash for drug running when it’s probably a piece of paper missing a signature making these salaries noncompliant.

This is Financial Aid 101. Low-level counselors at beauty colleges and truck driving schools know this regulation.

If their administration does not know this, it’s because they chose not to know it. It’s a bs excuse and the feds won’t take kindly to it when they send their auditors down.

What is the BRCC's annual budget? I didn't think it was very big.
