Millions of Americans will face dangerous heat this week, as a new heat wave is expected to bring near triple-digit temperatures to the South.

The Southeast and the Plains will experience temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees above average with humid conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat wave continues in 27 states across the country

While the Northeast felt a reprieve from the heat this weekend, heat alerts were in effect on Sunday in the Upper Midwest, as temperatures in the Plains hit 100 degrees and higher.

Temperatures in Fargo, North Dakota, hit 102 degrees on Sunday, while North Platte, Nebraska, reached 100 degrees. Low humidity has kept heat indexes low in the Midwest, a far cry from last week's "heat dome," which caused the heat index in the region to reach 115 degrees.

Heat wave brings new round of dangerous temps to millions this week

I’m in Minneapolis this week and it’s going to be 100 today. And it’s humid AF here.

Feels like Louisiana except the people talk funny.

Exactly, if everyone in America would drive electric cars, this same exact problem that happens regularly would stop for the whole world overnight.

I’ve lived in the same area for 56 years. Summers are definitely hotter and last longer than when I was a kid.

It’s summer and we live in the south. Stop whining about the heat already.

I guess this means the murder rate will be really high this week too.

Let the bodies hit the floor.

In southeastern LA with the humidity, is it really that much of a difference between 100 and the 93, 94, 95 that it would normally be? It’s still way too hot. I think people greatly exaggerate a few weeks with a little bit hotter temps.

What sucks is that this week there will probably be no rain. If you get an afternoon rainstorm that lasts an hour or two....it's tolerable.

IMO yes. I can tolerate 90-93. Anything over that is rough. The humidity level matters. If it’s 60% or higher humidity it’s horrible.

Yeah it's gonna be like 50 percent humidity in my metro on top of the hundred and one degree temp. I'm probably gonna make a grilled cheese on the hood of my car.

Portland gets 100 degree temps as well, just give it a few more weeks. You have to get on the coast at spots like Cannon Beach to guarantee low temps all summer.
