The bill in question:

https://legis.la.gov/legis/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1289297

It doesn't have anything in the language stating what this blog is saying.

16 The department shall install camera safety devices on the
17 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. The department may consult with the Safety
18 Corridor Advisory Group to determine the quantity, placement, duration of
19 use, and operation of the cameras. The department may monitor the cameras
20 or may contract with a third-party to monitor the cameras. The department
21 may determine whether the cameras should be utilized continuously or only
22 during certain hours.

It absolutely does have speed limits on about half of the highway.

I'm assuming you mean white electrical tape? Because black tape ain't changing a blue 0 into a 6 or a 9...

It doesn't specify the enforcement methods in the bill, however, what the OP is referencing came directly from the author's mouth.

Where is the starting line and the finishing line of this area? How long is the area? So to complete it in less than 18 minutes how fast would you have to be going? Wondering what is the average speed that would get you a ticket.

Abita Springs is supposed to be trying some new type of Lidar camera. The marshal shoots your car for speed but doesn't pull you over, you get a ticket mailed.

I would have to believe that a trooper could right enough tickets on that bridge to justify their salary and benefits.

Golden Meadow has proven that you can keep people from speeding.

I was just looking at one of those license plate covers that distorts the image of speed/ red light cameras last night. Even considering just throwing on a dealer advertisement plate for hunting season. No way I am doing 60 across the basin all hunting season. They can eat a dick

I went over this today and my wife clocked it. 14.5 minutes. I'm going to have a mailbox full of these things.

If it's based on the total time (18 min)... say you complete the first half at 80mph, get the warning to slow, you would have to probably drop to 45 mph for the second half to not finish sooner than 18 min.

If the current speed limit is 60mph, you'll need to drop down to 40mph to finish on the cutoff?

So I can go 100mph on the basin bridge and pull over for 5 min before exiting and be just fine. ????

You will get a ticket for averaging 65 in a 60 but the head of the freaking State Troopers that patrol this bridge can do 90 in their personal cars and face no consequences. Frick all of the lawmakers and cops.

Every person in this state that uses this bridge should work for the state police in some capacity even if it is part time.

Janitor, administration, or put 25 cents in a bubble gum machine to get the state police commander position, if you feel that you are above the law.

Problem solved no one will get a ticket.

OT Lawyers, what are the negative impacts here if one of these money grab tickets are received?
-Any potential legal action
-Dock in credit score
-potential boot on car

I set my cruise at 60 and crossed it in 17:47. So you will get a ticket for going 60 in a 60.

Drove from Lafayette to NOLA on Friday and back on Sunday. Set cruise at 60 and verified speed with Waze GPS. Started timer at the 60mph sign and stopped it at the 70mph sign.

17:48 going east and 17:47 going West. This will be one of the biggest scam money grabs in the history of this state. Out of state people will be hit the worst. They will have no clue they are being clocked.

“REVENUE EXPLANATION
Proposed law may result in an indeterminable increase in revenue from the newly created Atchafalaya Basin Bridge Safety Fund within DOTD and an increase in Local Funds revenue within Iberville and St. Martin parishes as a result of potential traffic fines…. The fine for a 1st offense would increase from $175 to $350 and subsequent offenses would increase from $500 to $1,000. The number of drivers that will be fined is unknown and the revenue impact from the fine is indeterminable.

Indeterminable amount of revenue? Wow, what a case to be made to spend OUR $6M in taxpayer dollars setting this up, plus $1-$3M per year to operate.
