I hate this so much. It will probably do nothing to solve the problem they're claiming to solve. I have a feeling that accidents may even go up with everyone timing themselves and paying more attention to their speed than to the road.

If the tickets are not mailed out registered/certified or don't otherwise have a proof of receipt, ignore it or trash it. If there are any web addresses or codes in the letter which claim to offer proof of your violation, do NOT enter them into any websites. These codes will be unique and your visit to them can serve as proof that you received the ticket in the mail.

If they press you on it, fight it every step of the way. Tell them you want to face your accuser. Make them prove that both cameras identified your vehicle correctly. Make them prove it was you driving. Make them prove the camera timestamps are in sync. Make them show you the certification and maintenance records on the cameras, as well as for all the other systems responsible for recording the footage, ID'ing your vehicle, keeping times in sync, etc. Ask for a list of every individual who has access to these systems, and their qualifications for the job. Ask to see the source code for the software involved in capturing and timing you.

Hell, given recent events, claim that some a-hole pointed a gun at you and you had to drive very fast to save your life.

Was reading up on this last week. They will have cameras in between to warn you if you are crossing faster than allowed and give you the opportunity to reduce your speed before hitting the end.

That sounds worthless unless it's smart enough to calculate that you listened to the warning, slowed to complete the second half in 9 minutes plus, and then doesn't give a ticket.

If it's based on the total time (18 min)... say you complete the first half at 80mph, get the warning to slow, you would have to probably drop to 45 mph for the second half to not finish sooner than 18 min.

So again, if consideration is not given to someone following the warning, then what's the point.

When is this starting? Myself and a whole lot of other people/vehicles crossed at about 80-85 mph on Sunday, 7/3.

Maybe. Just maybe. This will cut down on wrecks that cause all the backups we have so many of.

People drive like fools on and off the bridge but I've been stuck for hours on that bridge.

Sure, I did about 14 minutes 30 seconds today with people sitting in the left lane.

My god, please tell me y'all aren't this naive to believe this??

But of course, this is a board full of Fox "News" viewers.

Not surprising.

Why do libs keep saying this? There is a bunch of other new stations that puke out just the opposite "news". And people of that political sway follow like lemmings just as well. Incredibly lazy and hypocritical

Is the road marked where the cameras will be? Like a couple big stripes like the airplanes use to time you? Everyone is probably starting the clock at different places

Believe what? What are you arguing is not going to happen? The bill passing (it did)? The enforcement? The collection?

There's going to be so many accidents near the two ends. People will be 'scared' of how fast they could have been going and slam on their breaks to try and meet the criteria, and finish the mile or so at a 30mph crawl ...

Even going 60 passing them will be an issue with that huge differential

The opposite is much more likely.

First, cutting the average speed from 70+ down to 60 will waste 2.5 minutes per crossing per driver. That's 2.5 minutes longer that we have to spend on the road with all these idiots who don't pay attention to shite. This is a permanent traffic backup.

Second, there will be some percentage of people who drive faster before and after the bridge than they otherwise would have to make up for lost time. And as proven by numerous studies, it's not the speed of traffic that's dangerous, but the difference in speed between the fastest and slowest drivers that causes most accidents.

Third, this law discourages passing! As if people weren't bad enough at proper left lane usage, now people will be scared to use it properly at all for fear of beating the time. The road will be much more crowded as a result, and of course the more crowded the road the more accidents there will be.

This law is a huge time waster to the tune of 365,000 man-hours of lost productivity per year (2 minutes times 30k vehicles/day). That's millions of dollars in hidden costs that will be absorbed by taxpayers and local businesses.

This law will also not only not reduce accidents and fatalities, but it will very likely increase them due to forced crowding of the roads and giving drivers something stupid to pay close attention to rather than the road.

frick every lawmaker who voted for this.

It won't, at all. It addresses none of the actual issues.
