Comcast did this 6 months ago.
But they went back on it after monumental complaints. Rather than 300GB before triggering an overage, it's now 1024GB. Which, streaming a shitload of Nexflix, I've never come close to.

Funny you mention that because they are! They are throttling back websites unless they pay them for increased webpage data use. This means the corporations can afford to pay for increased website data use to get at the top of the search engines based on their data collection analytics. CNN will pay AT&T over $10 million a year for unlimited non-throttled access but the local Hammond Star can't afford that so they are pushed all the way to the back of the line with all of the other non-contributing websites.
You are already paying them for the internet but what this also does is it destroys the home and commercial security camera industries because those use the internet and they count those towards your internet usage. Its a safety and public policy concern as well.

Apparently, not shutting off your Netflix by logging out or closing the app also uses bandwidth which is counted. If you fall asleep and leave it up...it's counting it til you turn it off, streaming or not.

I have ATT uverse and Internet at home and lately when I try and look at porn it is extremely slow. Typically I have to take my phone off wireless and just let the normal network do its thing. So much faster.
This has only occurred over the last couple of weeks.

I just checked my Uverse app. Looks like my avg usage is about 6.41 GB/day and I watch a TON of HD porn so I think we'll be ok.

I stream a ton. 4 TVs and 5 PCs/Laptops/Tablets. Plus 2 Playstations. 2 Amazon Fire TVs. Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go. All used heavy. Plus other - ahem - services.
I pulled down 254 Gigs in May.

you looking at youporn?
They embed ads in the videos now. You have to drag the status bar past the ad to get it to load up faster.

when will they be refunding for the speeds purchased that I never fricking get?
Posted on 6/21/16 at 2:25 pm to ihometiger
OK, I get that. If some company is in bed with hulu and they are choking out netflix, that is bullshite. And I get the argument that these companies are a monopoly, not pure free markets -- however, this board is 95% free market advocates, but when it comes to internet usage, people go Bernie Sanders supporter retard in fighting any caps/premiums based on use. And after all, these companies laid the groundwork/infrastructure, why shouldn't they benefit from that? Fight for google fiber if that is your thing.
The home security thing is a close call to me. But, I feel like if you want to use your computer as a TV and consume everything that way, there is nothing wrong with charging you for that use as opposed to someone who only reads websites and uses very little bandwith.

I've done a few experiments since they added the data management tool, and I would have to stream 24/7 while also surfing the web 24/7 to even approach the cap. The only way this is going to be an issue is if you DL a LOT of HD video.
Posted on 6/21/16 at 2:35 pm to ihometiger
The OP is a bit misleading. The caps are for those cord cutters with uverse internet only. If you bundle internet with TV, you get unlimited. I have never found cord cutting reliable and worth it. I will still be enjoying my 4k porn.

Beginning on May 23, 2016, we will be increasing your U-verse® Internet data allowance to an unlimited allowance with a $30 value as a result of your having a TV product bundled with your Internet service.

ATT app says I'm at 345GB out of 600. I think I'm okay. Historically I'm way under the 600GB on a monthly basis even during football season when I'm streaming ESPN nonstop.
I'm a cord cutter too. I use TiVo and access OTA for all network stuff but use Netflix/Amazon prime/slingTV for streaming.

Check your Comcast. They just increased my data from 300GB to 1TB.

I was hoping this was the case. I've come close to cutting the cord but have not yet. If it was just me I would, but with two kids and a wife I have not yet.

These are the same bastards charging me $47 for 6MBPS down and 0.7 up where I live. God, I can't wait until my lease is up.
