I find the best way is to ask ridiculous open ended questions like "So your son only eats bacon?" or "so does Billy like to do anything else besides have his face five inches from the Ipad all day?" followed by a thinly veiled smirk of condescension.

They know. You know. Everybody knows.

I dont understand why some of you walk on eggshells around people you care about. Just tell your brother his kid drinking 5-6 red bulls is trashy and likely bad for him and his blood presssure.

Depends, do you want your brother and his wife pissed at you or to be comforting your brother at you nephews graveside.

Approach it out of concern, not confrontation would be my advice.

I've never had an issue telling my nieces and nephews anything as though I was there parent. Now I would not say anything out of line if it was that serious...but I would have definitely said something about this. My brothers and I have zero problems with that sort of thing. Then again, we all parent pretty much the same exact way. Is it not common for siblings to parent almost the exact same way?

I realize it’s always a sensitive topic to tell someone how to raise their kids, but geez.

When it comes to a kid's health, speak up.

One time my uncle grabbed me aside and told me the dangers of smoking and what he had gone through with his father in law. That was the starting point of me quitting smoking.

He doesn’t have a problem until he’s throwing back this gem from 1985.

No. I would venture you and your sibs are definitely in the minority.

That can’t be healthy, much much caffeine will this kid need to function by the time he’s in his mid 20s.

It's not. Someone i know who would drink these things all the time (several a day) ended up in the hospital with heart issues (in his twenties). Was told to not drink them again or it could cause irreparable damage to his heart.

I would be more worried about the sugar he's drinking than the caffeine. There is 100 mg caffeine in one red bull. I would laugh at you if you told me you were concerned about my kid having 500 mg caffeine in a day.

Now, do you think you should tell the kid to stop being a fat frick? Up to you. But get off your high horse about some fricking caffeine

Especially if you don't have kids. Parents always appreciate the feedback.

All of this is true. It goes over even better if you call said parent stupid, irresponsible, or uncaring (all three at once to make it more effective).

I don't

With exception to the parent being blacked out on drugs/alcohol and their toddler is running in the street crying with a shite filled diaper, then I would just call CPS while I made sure the kid didn't get killed. Or I see or witness some type of abuse to the child. Other than that, it's their kid. I don't criticize anyone else's parenting because I'm sure somebody could shoot holes in my own parenting when looking from the outside without any context.

You should have offered him a Jolt cola and some pixie sticks. Mind your own business.

I've learned over the years not to judge parents. Some of my cousins that were little spoiled shits when they were younger turned out to be exemplary human beings. Some the kids that were raised by very strict and stern parents turned out to be teen parents or on drugs and don't talk to their parents anymore. Until you have kids on your own, don't judge other's disciplinary techniques.

Shitty parents need to be informed that they’re being shitty parents.

It’s your brother and nephew so I would hope you would talk to them out of concern for his health. An occasional energy drink is not bad but if you’re drinking over five a day you are potentially going to have serious cardiac issues. Also, It isn’t just caffeine that causes the energy spikes in things like Red Bull

Take that energy drink out his hand and replace it with a beer.
