I became friends with your father right before I banged your mom

Never really got to because he died when I was 17. I often think about what our relationship would be like today had he not been killed. I also wonder about him as a grandfather to my daughter.

Well, what's he locked up for?

I'm the closest I've ever been with my Dad and I still don't consider him a friend. He will always be my Dad. Somebody I don't cuss around, somebody I always look to for guidance, and somebody I look up to on how to be a man. The way I act around my friends, I would never think to act that way around my Dad out of respect.

I've been close with my dad since as early as I can remember. I was hunting and fishing with him since I was out of diapers.
But I think things got to be more on an equal basis when I was in college and started "taking" him hunting and fishing as opposed to the other way around.

There was never a moment I didn’t have a great and healthy relationship with my dad. Solid man to the core.
He whipped my tail but would also hug us daily. He never missed a game or church. He would cry in front of me and my brothers. Taught us how to hunt and fish. He was a vietnam vet and worked on the pipeline for 35 years. My mom was disabled and died at 66 he never left. They were married for 45 years.

My relationship worsened over the years. He was a bitter a-hole. Now dead.

When you move out, pay your own bills, feed yourself, realize you don’t know everything, look at your friends who had parents who’d didn’t give a shite or made it too easy, realize the worries and sacrifices, and you’re a grown up.

Never. My dad is a POS and sadly my family is better without him in our lives

Probably around 13 or 14.

About 10 years after he died.

My dad was a good man. We lost him unexpectedly after a short illness. He passed before my two youngest got to know him but both of them have mentioned him by name out of the blue saying that they met him. My middle child said she met him “before I was here with you.”
I miss him dearly but it feels better to know I will see him again.

When I stopped thinking I knew more than him and realized he actually knew quite a bit of useful shite. So about 25.

We didn't start hanging out and talk to one another as equals (mostly) until I was 25 when my professional life started gaining steam.
About the same for me. My dad is a good man who just didn't know how to show his kids love. He was hell to my brothers and I.
