At what age did you start letting your kids sleep over?

Our 7-year-old daughter is invited to a sleepover birthday party this weekend. We know the parents well, so no issue there. There is one girl who is invited that at times bullies her, so we have some hesitation with that. We’ll find out if that girl is going, and make a decision after the fact, but is a sleepover in second grade too young nowadays?

Every parent and every situation is different. We let our son go sleep at some friends house when he was six. It worked out fine.
I think you are taking a good approach about the bully.

The day I brought them home from hospital I let them spend the night. It was just easier

I went to my first sleepover when I was 7. Not a humble brag.

The age seems fine for your child but I’d be a little concerned about the bully, especially if it’s physical bullying.

Son just stayed at a friend's house for a birthday. Think it was most of the kids first time and they are in 3rd grade. I think I was around the same age.

Teach your daughter to throw a punch. She hits the other girl right in the nose, the other girl won’t know what to do. End of your bullying problem

It started around 6, I have to say that the first few years not all the kids were allowed, and some would try but ask to have their parents come get them at 1am or earlier. Not until they were like 9 could all the kids make it through the night. Ours never had a problem, but they’ve been spending nights with cousins and stuff as long as they could recall.

I remember when I had a friend that cried for my mom to call his mom to come pick him up in the middle of the night whenever he'd come over

This one girl wanted to stay and would try almost every time there was a sleep over. She was like 9 and still couldn’t do it. I think she also slept in her parents bed when at home so that might have been part of the problem. Kids sleeping with parents usually seem to have more issues IMO.

Nope. I wouldn’t consider it until they are fully comfortable with taking a stand. I just let them stay til like 11 or midnight then pick them up

6-7 are fine. Kids are old enough to tell you if anything is off/happened. Even if you know the parents, wolves in sheep's clothing and all.

A lot of bullying doesn't happen at home because parents will make em knock it off unlike at school.

Don't really remember the age being part of the discussion. It was more about how well we knew the parents and kid. I don't even remember how old my kids were the first time they slept over a friend's house. 7 or 8 sounds about right though.

I made him stay at the hospital for the first 3 weeks, but he has been allowed to crash at our place ever since.

Give her some brass knucks and tell her to have fun.
