I wouldn't pay $1200/month for daily hand jobs

Not affect the negotiated price, true. But it would absolutely affect the monthly hit if he was totally upside down on his trade in

My guess is a crazy high rate.., or this is not the first time he’s been upside down and he keeps rolling it.

Or that the OP is just making up numbers for the sake of starting a thread.

Sales guy told him he was so upside down on his trade it was going to be $1200 a month for 84 months

Dealership charging him 7% rate and the bank giving the loan is selling the rate to the dealership at 6%.

Dealer making additional $$.

I asked a guy at the dealership about trade ins like that guy. He said 70% of consumers turn cars over every 3 years. Most people don’t get enough equity in them to transfer over to a new sale. Enter COVID and people paying 5-10K over MSRP and you have what I overheard. Also said that guy probably didn’t qualify for a standard rate loan and was paying 12-17% depending on how bad his credit was at time of sale. He said they can get anyone a car loan. They have one lender that will lend 130% LTV.

Better than you. Those don't add up. Stay away from the show room.

It will all be worth it when his wife gets to drive through the car pool lane next week in a brand new Honda Pilot. All the other moms are going to be jealous.

I don’t. Know what school your kids go to, but a new pilot isn’t keeping up with the joneses at my kids school.

I read that previous post as being tongue in cheek.

you are psychic.

The starter went out about 6 months ago after 90K miles, and took the flex plate with it. the first real money we ever put into that car.

Ours was about 95k. It must be a common problem that I was unaware of.

I didn't mind the starter at that mileage. That's just life, but the flywheel was a chunk of change.

It was on my daughter's watch and happened in another state, and I suspect the guy she brought it to didn't follow a maintenance bulletin, and caused the flywheel issue with the starter install. I can't prove it.

Since I gave her the car, I ate the bill.

A trade in should have no bearing on the negotiated price.

That's correct, but it has everything to do with the monthly payment if you're upside down on the loan. The original loan still has to be paid.

People who are bought 10-20k over are stuck and will be stuck for a while.

I feel like the guy in OP might as well have just bought the pilot and kept the other car too. Both notes combined couldn’t have been too far off.

Very common, as I found out via google standing in the fricking parking lot of the St. Charles district courthouse
