I drive a 4 year old Infiniti car. My kids were little so it was easier for them to get into. I want a truck now that they're bigger, but I don't need one. I've been thinking about paying cash for a beater to haul stuff in and keeping the infiniti.

They love that. They will inflate the numbers to make it look like you are really upside down even if its not that bad.

I've always had full sized trucks for the same reason, but our kids are almost all grown. I think I'll downsize to a mid-sized truck next. The full sized are too expensive.

Maybe a 3-4 year old Tacoma or Colorado/Canyon. I use the bed a lot, but I don't really tow anything and don't need the room anymore.

I gave my 2013 Accord EX-L v6 to my daughter a few years ago. It had 50K miles, and ran like a Swiss watch.

I still miss that car.

Keep an eye on the starter. The reason I have my current car is because the starter on my previous (nearly identical to yours, a touch newer) went out, got replaced, and started to go out again. It's the one thing those cars are known for having issues with. If she starts mentioning that it's slow the start, taking multiple tries, etc, don't just assume it's a low battery.

The starter and the power steering pump are the only 2 things I've done to the 2012. I think I had that starter replaced 2 years ago. So far so good.

I just bought my wife a 2008 Toyota Corolla with 35K miles from a Nissan Dealership priced at $8K and got the out the door price at $10,200 after having a mechanic look at it. Feels great!

I bet your wife can’t believe how lucky she is.

After I replaced the starter, a few weeks later, it started struggling again. Brought it back and they said something about that when the starters go out, sometimes they create grooves in something or another that causes the new starter to fail. Replacing the part was cheap, but accessing the part was going to require a damned near full teardown and be very, very expensive in labor.

I said frick it and bought another car

Yeah, at some point it's best to cut your losses on a maintenance headache if you can afford it. That's what will cause me to replace our vehicles these days.

A trade in doesn’t affect sales price but it does loan amount if he has to roll over that amount into new loan.

I had actually already been planning to buy another car in the year or so after that point, but it pushed things forward. The fact that the full failure of the first starter stranded me in the parking lot of a courthouse several parishes away might have shortened my fuse a little bit

My wife's certainly was showing signs of going out. I told her we were going to bring it to get it replaced. The day she was going to drop it off, she stopped at the bank for work right across the street from the mechanic shop. It went out there. I had to call a damn tow truck to tow it 100 yds

I don't see how a bank would ever finance this.

Used to be they wouldn't finance more the the sticker price. Meaning a dude buried in his trade would have to at least come up with enough cash to bring the financed amount down to the new car's suggested retail.

Or he's looking at 17% interest or something.

You guys wondering how someone can be way upside down on a trade; Have you forgotten not long ago new cars were selling for over sticker price? And don't realize trade in values have since plummeted?

There are a LOT of people very upside down in their cars right now.

This is why I could never sell cars. My conscience would never allow me to do that to someone. Never make big financial decisions from a place a desperation. You will always get taken to the cleaners.
