Reading first hand accounts, there was definitely 100% crush going on, and sounds like most of these deaths were from up front where that was going on the worst
THIS.
One lone security guard getting accidentally stuck with a dirty needle and crashing out doesn't mean that's what was going on. The Chief of Police thinks he is Travis Scott's Buddy and that this event is great for the hometown and hometown kid. LiveNation was ONE of the promoters - and their main involvement was pre-selling of tickets and packages... not to mention their control over the lucrative resale market. Scott owns the record label he distributes through. As such - A LOT of the logistical details for this one considered "HIS Music Festival" would be the responsibility of the label and their promotion team. Good Buddy Top Cop is going to see the investigation into the cause of this tragedy ending up in some other investigative unit's hands....and they are going to find a LOT of untrained/undertrained "security" staff and VERY inadequate medical staffing on hand for the number of people attending.
For anyone with 10-15min to spare - I highly encourage you to check out this video posted to youtube by the Houston FOX affiliate...
FULL INTERVIEW: ICU Nurse, Astroworld attendee breaks down what happened during the festivities
A harrowing account by an extremely articulate young woman.

Dude you're not kidding. I was at Woodstock 99 and that shite got out of control really fast. One second people were booing b/c of a lame ending to an overpriced disaster of a festival and the next a car was getting flipped over, merch booths were getting set on fire, and everything was getting looted. Then riot cops came in and proceeded to beat the shite out of anyone within reach regardless of if they were doing anything wrong or not. Even before the riots there was a really weird angry vibe from a large portion of the people attending. Depending on the band playing it was pretty normal to see assholes throwing full water bottles into the crowd.
I'm sure this horrible tragedy is going to come down to them having massively inadequate security and crowd control procedure.

The more wide-shot crowd clips I see from this situation - The more I become convinced that the size of the stage at this show was a huge contributing factor to this tragedy. Having a back to front push at a "field show" concert is fairly common... but people can generally make their way off to the side for relief with minimal difficulty. The stage at this show was at least 2X, possibly 3X wider than any I've ever seen for a "standing room only" general admission type setup. To make it even worse - There were smaller satellite stages within the event complex... and the performers on those stages concluded their acts in time for all those folks to make their way over to see the headliner. So there was a crowd push coming from the sides as well as the back.

Travis Scott and his Kardashian connection. Sadly TMZ WILL be the one to get to the bottom of it. They will talk about it today and have some angle or some video that will be new.
Been involved 2 scary situations.
Metallica Black Album tour in 1992-3? At Houston (Baytown) Raceway park. Field show with 4 acts and a crowd already irritated that AIC had cancelled due to Layne Staley’s issues. The crowd continually pushed forward. Metallica took forever to take the stage. Most headliners make a dramatic lengthy wait but this was excessive. Like 45 mins. We were in the back. And the crush was still crazy. I just started “mall walking” my way to the back. I did not stop until I could see the ground and could see stoners. Stoners usually aren’t the fighting type.
Marilyn Manson opened for NIN in Houston for Halloween night about 1995. Believe it was The Summit still (now Lakewood church). Most insane mosh pit I ever got to watch. During Manson the mosh pit wipe outs were more entertaining than the show. NIN come on and start playing. It gets ramped up even more. They play the open of March of the Pigs. I hear a crash and it’s one of the gates to the floor being broken. Crowd FLOODS an already packed floor. Literally saw a security guard throw up his hands. There was nothing to do.
What I learned from both situations. Never get close or anywhere near the stage at an SRO event. And if something happens DO NOT lose your footing. Do not bend over to help pick up fallen people. Unless they are family I’d question even trying. You’ll just end up down with them.

That's insane. He's staring at a dead body being hauled off and continues his god-awful autotune noises. He needs to be charged with involuntary manslaughter.

What you don't see right before that is Travis Scott stopped his set and for about 20-30 seconds he was imploring Security to get help for the guy, trying to point out where the guy was located. What you see in the video appears to make it sound like he's still singing a song as part of his set, but he had stopped the entire set specifically for that guy to get help, that's why he's staring right at the guy. No clue why he's doing the awkward singing there, but it is 100% not part of his set if you saw the video, he stopped the set well before that.
You can edit a video or not even edit, just show a certain piece, and people will run wild with their thoughts.

WTF was that? Weird mumbling noises.
Did that guy actually die? He definitely looked dead.

We have generations of people that have been taught pictures are Rick solid and video is even better. It’s already a challenge but as we get into this next era of tech, it’s only going to become a bigger deal. No one likes to question what they think they see plain as day. On the bright side, kids today will get called fools but likely be more equipped to deal with things like that. It’s going to be a rocky transition

Okay, well thats good to know.
There's another video where two guys go up to him on stage and tell him something. Right after that he says "you know what you're here to do. Let's make the ground shake."
I'd love to know what they went up and told him.

And fwiw, I'm only speaking on that one specific moment, it's been taken way out of context.
Overall, I have no idea what he did or didn't know about all of the issues during the show. He certainly could have known a lot more and said frick it, i'm doing my show, but I have no clue about that.

Most
Most of Travis Scott's fans are white suburban kids. He isn't Lil Boosie.
You race baiters are always out of touch.
He dates a Kardashian/Jenner. His demographic of fan is mostly white girls and soft males that where open toe sandals.

It's also definitely not true that "most of his fans are suburban white kids", even if it an unusually large proportion for a popular hip hop artist.
